I fly all over Kentucky and I haven't seen anything near 8 ft of snow, even in drifts. Maybe 12-18" in a couple of spots in the higher parts of the mountains in SE KY.

I'd love to see your truck driving through these "eight feet deep" snow drifts though.

 

I'm still trying to interpret that. I don't recall saying that I can drive better than you in the snow, if that's what you're getting at. Weird...

 

well as a heavy equment operator for the state of ky, "aka a snow plow driver " i assure you that 8 foot if drift it nothing. As far as me driving though i must admit i drove around the larger ones because ive had to get yo work so people like you can travel on christmas eve.

i dont really want to level it out. it rides rough enough and i pull a boat a lot ant it looks effing stupid when the front of the truck is pointed up in the air. ill level it out when i need to.

factory rake is there for a reason. yes i know it looks better leveled. but when i hate a rough ride and its bad enough with the BFGs. best tires ive ever owned but not the smoothest

 

get a weight distribution hitch... (with the bars too of course)

 

Do the BFG A/T's just not do so good in the snow? I've been through alot worse with a one wheeled wonder and never even got it sideways. And my tread never gets clogged like that. It chucks snow ***** like 30 feet in all directions at 15 mph. But nice pics anyways man. I just find it strange that you needed 4 by for that. Not faulting your driving, but ima blame the tires for that one.

 

Actually, BFG AT tires are very good in snow. What got him was the ice under the snow. No tire, without studs, chains or something similar, does well on smooth ice. Engaged in 4WD does little or nothing to improve traction on ice, if the tires have no traction.
Take note of the pictures where he got out of the ditch. Those BFG AT tires did very well in that snow.

 

Thank you! Finally someone points out the obvious. It's when idiots don't know how to leave snow on roads that gets you in trouble. When they scrape the ****, it leaves a thin DANGEROUS sheet of ice. When they leave the snow on the road, it gives your tires something to grip to and also IF you do slip, the snow in the middle of the road will help slow you down some or help keep you in the "tracks". I have never slipped or spun in snow, just ice.

I hit ice evidently. The truck has awesome traction in snow and everything else. But going around that curve, i hit ice and into the ditch I went. Wheter or not I needed 4x4 or not to get out of the hole was not an issue. I was already in 4x4 for traction purposes (I dont want to wreck a truck I owe 11 grand on). Wouldnt make sense to put it in 4x2 when im in a ditch inches away from a bank. I especially didn't want to make it hard on myself by making ruts and not being able to get out. I just switched to 4-lo from 4 hi and put her in first gear and out she came no problems.

The only thing that did worry me is that I have an open diff, and at one point coming out i was only on diagonal tires. I have heard if that happens, your fvcked. but it never faulted, just came right out of that hole. I have never owned a limited slip or anything so i have nothing to compare to but i was proud of the ol girl.

 

Yeah. even with 4x4 and 4 lo, i've been suck with open diffs before, it sucks. one of the main reasons i want to do a sas in the future with better axles.

 

You can put lockers in your current axles. You don't need to be SAS'd to have lockers and get rid of open diffs.

Something to think ab out, everyone levels out by lifting the front. You could level out my downgrading blocks sizes. ever think of going from the factory 2.5 inch block to a 1.5 or 1?

 

You know they make Aussie lockers for the D35 IFS and Torsen now makes a Torsen for the D35 IFS. Plus you still need an 8.8 before any of that.

 

They used to make Aussie lockers for the D35 IFS. They quit making them because there wasn't much demand for them.
