'04 Engine In An '88?

Hello again all, just a real quick question if you don't mind taking the time; My dad runs a fleet of Rangers for his business, and just the other day an employee of his wrecked an '04. The truck is pretty much totaled, but the engine is still good. (I'm pretty sure it's the 2.5L) Incidentally, my '88 Ranger needs a new engine, and I was wondering if it was even possible to swap out the original and put the '04 in? And if so, what kind of modifications would need to be made? Thank you.

Anything is possible with a welder. You will have to fab up new motor mounts, transplant the whole wiring harness over and other odds and ends
