I have a 1990 ranger xlt long bed air auto trans look to swap to manual have a 5 speed from a 96 just trying to figure out what clutch and fly wheel set up I need from what I gathered from my research is that both the 90 and 96 clutch and flywheel are two completely different part numbers I have the trans it's self with new slave have pedal assembly and shifter and boot there's a factory removable plate in the trans hump as well as the fire wall have the fluid resivor all I need is clutch flywheel and drive shift any ideas?

 

i got my driveshaft from a JY. They are pretty cheap slap some u joints on it and good to go. For the flywheel and clutch you may have some trouble the clutch needs to be splined to accept the input shaft of the trans (if they are different between years) flywheel will be engine and year specific also need to make sure if you get a newer clutch that the older flywheel has the same pressure plate bolt pattern. Different part numbers could mean different designs IE bolt patterns spline count etc. or it could just mean they changed the number to represent a revision in the part somewhere else. So best case scenario just get a flywheel for your year and clutch kit for the trans year and mate the two. Worst case if the bolt pattern is different you will need a pressure plate for the 90 and clutch disk for the 96.

 

Also ford no longer stocks pressure plate bolts so if you don't have them you may have to go aftermarket i ended up with some off the shelf grade 8 bolts for mine and i lucked up and found some new flywheel bolts from a ford dealer in the midwest. I would not reuse flywheel bolts because if they are stretched or weakened at all they can fail under the added weight of the flywheel vs. the autos flex plate.

 

I never got the flywheel or clutch out the 96 I have none of the things for the inside of the trans for either year and only thing I can find is 2001 clutch and flywheel kit on ebay r u sayin those won't work
