I have a 98 Ranger XLT. Purchased for 1500.00 Body in perfect shape. Was very rough driving home first time. Checked engine codes. Miss fire on 2 & 4. Changed plugs. No codes but when coming to stop engine dies. no power in 4th and rpm drops off. So far have replaced, the following parts= IAC, TPS, Both coils, fuel filter, Fuel pump, cleand out Cat converter. Will idle great at start up. when driven will die coming to stop, hard to restart. Anyone have suggestions what to do next.???? Help please would like to drive and enjoy this truck.

 

id check the MAF sensor

 

I was told that if the truck is running and you unplug MAF and it dies then MAF is working. That is what I did and truck dies. Is this true. Thanks for reply. I have change a lot of other parts also. None have helped.

 

did you check and see what your oil looks like?

 

Yes! I chanded oil and filter when I changed plugs along with other parts. I am now getting a P1401 Code. Not in book ??? I also checked Intake airtemp sensor circuit. It is also working.

 

Did you check the fuel pulse damper?
