1999 Ford Ranger 2.5 clicking noise
I have a 1999 Ford Ranger 2.5 with 157k miles. When I first start the truck it makes a loud fast clicking noise at idle. When you increase the rpms it goes away but when you stop at a red light the noise comes back. I have changed the oil and filter and removed the serpentine belt and that is all fine. Any ideas? that noise is driving me crazy
Thanks

is that engine built with lifters or a overhead cam
if it has lifters , then the clicking sound is generating from the hydraulic lifters being starved of oil
add 2 litres of automatic transmission fluid to your oil
( do not drive anywhere, just rev it to 2,000 rpm`s for 1 minute ,then let it idle after that)
sit in the drivers seat and keep and eye on your coolant temperature gauge )
the atf fluid is a detergent and will clean out any gunk/sludge build-up in there
