exhaust system
exhaust system
ok so im getting really bored of the way my 2.3 sounds and i want to do a 302 swap but i got nothing else to drive for the time it takes to put in the new motor and i also dont the materials or knowledge to do it. so i want to out a exhaust system on my ranger. does anybody here know of a good exhaust system for a '87. also it cant be too expansive.
flowmaster 40 series is popular for the 2.3 motor
i had an 87 2.3L with straight pipes, it sounded pretty bad-A$$ but it was also cammed and ported to allow that much flow
i don't recommend straight pipes for a stock engine....it will sound like crap

Like I want to to sound deep and throaty. But I don't want to have to get a 302 for the sound I want. Now for the flowmasters would I have a problem with back pressure. Cuz I have talked to a few professionals in the automotive field and they said that I would have a back pressure problem with cherrybombs.

a Thrush turbo is basically the same as the Flowmaster 40 series but its about half the cost.
so i'd probably go with that if you're on a tight budget.
Do u have a link to the website? Or can I get it at any muffler shop
if you're any bit of mechanically inclined, i'd just get it at O'reillys or any parts store with 2 exhaust clamps.
measure your current exhaust pipe and get a muffler that's 1/8th of an inch BIGGER or smaller than your pipe (be sure its single in, single out)
cut off your existing muffler and clamp the new one in its place.
OR you can buy it (just the muffler) and take it to any exhaust shop and they will weld it on for you......most places should do it for anywhere from 25 to 75 dollars depending on what else you want done...(pipes straight out the back, sidepipes, duals...whatever)

I put in a full exhaust system on a grand prix in my schools shop and Im going to be going to school for automotive. So I can do it. Now do u kno how much that thrust turbo muffler will be?
ok thanks steveo. my school gets a 5% discount count from napa and o'rielly. but i have found out through shopping around carquest is always cheaper then both of the places i get a discount at.
So today my muffler back fell off on my way to school. And it was only held on by a hanger. So in shop today I ripped it off. So now all I got on it is the cat. It don't sound too bad
lol i had thrush on my trucki dont recommend clamping it on though cuz i went wheeling and suddenly my truck got really loud and crappy sounding lol the muffler fell off and sank
