Hi Folks!

I got a 97 ford ranger 2.3L and am experienced some brakes problems.
My car pull to the left when i step on the brakes. I suspected some brakes issues and I found out that my front brake (passenger side) is the culprit.
The garage said the piston caliper is worn out and sometimes the piston keep pushing the brake pads.
I'll change for a new one kit but I'd like to change the old piston caliper.

Is it a difficult procedure ? Where can I get some information for this procedure?.

 

By the way, is there a way to know if the front brake caliper is a single or double piston ?

 

Go to autozone.com, register for the repair manual, it is free. The procedure is in the manual.

I usually look it up in the auto part stores website, autozone, oriely's, napa, etc. Normally these sites will tell you by the part description, single or dual piston.

It is a single piston caliper. You should pick up a Haynes manual if they're available where you are. They aren't free like some of the stuff you can find online but it's nice to have it right there with you while you're working on your truck!

I'll check with tascaparts technician and tey said the oem front caliper is discontinued.
So i'm trying to search for an aftermarket part.
Which brands are good ?

 

It seems I cannot find a single piston caliper for my car.
Is it possible to install a double piston on my car ?

 

Yeah, you can go to a double piston but you have to do both sides. See if anyone near you can rebuild the caliper you have. Also call around, there has to be another caliper out there since Ford put zillions of Rangers on the road!

Also, what's the difference between a 4x4 brake caliper and a 4x2 brake caliper (RWD:my car) ? Cause If there's none, I'll buy and swap with this.

 

So I pull of my tire this week end to look the front caliper.
I found out that it is a 2 pistons caliper from Bendix. There's no leak from the seal.
I'll try to check why the caliper pistons are stuck

 

Is there any problem if I put a 4WD caliper instead of a RWD caliper ?

 

I swap my old caliper with a new one. I want to bled the system but I don't know what kind of brake fluid is used (DOT 3 or DOT 4). My mechanician doesn't know eihter cause he never bleed the system.
I bought a DOT 4 can.
Can I bled my system and replace the old by this one.
Haynes manual repair says DOT 4.

 

The way I understand it is that the DOT 3 is non synthetic aand DOT 4 is synthetic:

You can use the DOT 4 without a problem.
