Need help: 1994 2.3 2wd passenger side motor mount replacement

Hey all!

Driving a 1994 2wd 2.3 Ranger,

Passenger side motor mount is shot (to put it nicely!),

I've done motor mounts on quite a few vehicles but this one has me stumped. I see that there is just one nut underneath holding the motor mount to the lower bracket, but I can't imagine how I'm supposed to get at it. I can see it, but the i beam and crossmembers are pretty close.

I see how you could remove the bracket that sits under the motor mount, where that lower bracket bolts to the frame etc., but that seems like a lot of work and a pain.

Has anyone done this job and if so can you tell me how you went about it? If I'm on the right track?

Thanks.

Chris

I found this article: How to: replace motor mounts and trans mount on 92' ranger 2.3L - The Ranger Station Forums

Photoshop pics are no longer there but description is pretty good
DS = Drivers side
PS = Passenger side

Thanks for that link. I stumbled across that as well.

I went at it as described and with my best guesses-

Yes, you do need to unbolt the bracket underneath the motor mounts, from the frame. It's not as bad as it seems with some extensions, wobblers, impacts etc.

Actually one of the most painless motor mount jobs I've done so far! Quite relieved...

Makes the job much easier if you pull transmission out, and the exhaust manifold... I had to do my clutch at the same time as well as some exhaust work (manifold gaskets included) so that worked out well.

Thanks!!

Chris

One other tip for anyone else who attempts this-

The top nut for the drivers side motor mount (i e the nut that threads onto the top stud of the DS motor mount) is a real pain to access from above or below.

With a shallow socket and long handled ratchet it is easy to reach sideways through the wheel well- there is just enough space to sneak a tool through between the plastic wheel well and the coil spring on that side.

I am about to do the engine mounts on my 94 B2300 with manual trans. I would like to know when I am ready to re-install the new mounts back to the truck, I know I need to jack up the engine a little. Now, do I need to remove the fan and fan shroud, and transmission mount? What other things I need to remove when I am jacking the engine up.

Actually, how can you tell if you have bad engine mounts on this type of 4 cylinder Ford Ranger.

Please advise.
