Welcome to the forum
Rangers used the 2.5l SOHC 4cyl Lima engine in 1999, 117 horse power
In 2001 Rangers got the 2.3l DOHC 4cyl Mazda L engine, 143 horse power, and had this engine until 2012, last year of the Ranger
The 2.3l DOHC was first used in Rangers, so any 4cyl from 1999 wouldn't be same engine.
The engines are not related.
You would need the Motor, tranny, computer and wiring.
Possible yes, practical no.
'08 computer runs the dash instruments, so loads of issues swapping computers
Also losing 30HP for the trouble
Better to buy the low miler and then resell it for a profit and use that money for 2.3l DOHC Duratec engine, repair or replace

Thanks for your help. I do have the computer but it sounds like the wiring issues are beyond me. I have the 1999 with frame issues and was thinking about buying the 2008. My 1999 has been sitting a year waiting for a good truck with a bad engine. I gave up trying to find one about a month ago and listed my low mileage truck. The body and bed are rust free and the drive train is perfect. I didn't get any interest at $575 so decided to keep waiting. I may end up having to part it out. I love the Rangers but wish they had made the frames like the 80's stuff. My old 1987 had 280,000 and no frame rust. My brother's 1986 had over 300,000 and no frame issues. Thanks again for your help!
