hey guys! anyone have a 4'' suspension lift i could get dimmensions off and build my buddy a lift kit with only him buying minimal parts from superlift and not the whole kit...i wanted to build him all the drop brackets and anything i can to bring cost down... if anyone was interested i could build a lift (im a machinist so it will be within + or -.005) and MAYBE let someone try out my brackets free of charge with me using a superlift or whatever to pull dimensions off....... just a thought anyone interested? if i can get a few people in on this i could write a my programs for my mill and talk to my boss and produce a few lifts....any takers? first off i need a lift but dont wanna spend 1200$ for dimmensions! u guys kinda get my drift right? im going to build a lift for my 01 as well and stick on there see how it works any ideas guys????? its to much BS sittin under ur truck and measuring...i did it tonight with my calipers and scale, an actual lift will give me more of a tolerence to work with + get everything i need no questions asked. so if peeps are interested maybe we could pool up some $$$ together or whatever ur guys' ideas are! i see therangerstation.com made they're own line of lift for the ttb for a while but took it down to rework brackets. Sounds good and all, but wouldn't that violate some kind of copyright or patent laws? Copying dimensions of other companies lifts to possibly duplicate them and sell them for profit... just curious...

in all reality, my lifts will be a different and its not copywriting hole locations highth and widths, if it were that case wouldnt lift companies be copywriting ford? i want to design my own lift not make an exact replica know what i mean? idk..maybe it was a bad idea submitting this post.............otherwise on the flip side where can my bud find the cheapest lift on the market? i know they run about 1200$ or so right? is that the cheapest lift for the ifs rangers? he has the money to buy the lift he just doesnt want too lol. otherwise we will scratch the making our own brackets and buy the lifts. thanks for the input tho guys.

 

You're still copying, but I understand what you mean. You want to copy the "concept", not the actual design.

None the less, with the work you'd use to design your suspension, you could probably design your own or solid axle your truck.

 

ya i know man i was an idea but oh well...im callin 4wheelparts tomorrow mornin and ordering my front suspension kit ( i got re-arched springs for the rear already from a prior project) oh well theres 900 down the pot! but sOOOOOOOOOO worth it! thanks for the input fellas!

 

so are you really willing to take the responsibility that you will get with the "custom" kits? heaven for bid if one fails.....you are screwed.....not to mention that your lift ins't DOT approved......i hope you got DEEEEEEP pockets...

If he was to just do it for a friend without his friend paying him for it then I don't really see the problem. Its like coping a DVD for a friend. As long as your not coping it and selling it to everyone in the whole world you shouldn't have much to worry about.

 

I'd be more worried about Maurice's point. Changing suspension parts is a very risky proposition. The liability for it would be astronomical.

Anyways, its something you'd definately make for yourself, text out for a good while, then maybe go into production on. And there's only so much you can protect yourself from lawsuits.
