AAL?

I see AAL in a lot of the suspension threads. What does AAL stand for?

Add A Leaf. Just adds an extra leaf to your leaf pack in the rear on each side.

^^LOL.

More accurately, not only is it an additional leaf (as the name suggests), it also arches the leaf pack more thus creating lift. Downside: slightly rougher ride. But it's a truck and I think the AAL feels good.

Thanks for the info. Now, when you add a leaf, that raises the rear of the truck, how do you compensate for the front, assuming you have already cranked t-bars? Is this something typically done in conjunction with a body lift? And, if you do aal, and shackles, and a 3" BL, good lord, how high would the back end of the truck be?

Sorry, but there's so much to learn, and work is slow.

My opinion, I prefer a level truck compared to a raked truck that has a nose dive stance. I'd crank the bars and leave the rear as-is. My truck has a 4" suspension lift up front. The way I lifted the back is using the AAL and a shackle for 3" of lift or so. Truck sits level. You don't want a shackle and AAL unless you use a real lift in the front. Now, if you ditch the stock 2.5" block THEN do the shackle and AAL, everything will be a-okay...the back will lift a little bit and cranked bars would get you a nice little bump in height and it won't look retarded with the nose diving into the ground. lol. Just would suck if you max your bars out, do the shackle+AAL+stock block and be left with the rear being 2" or so taller than the front will ever be without a real lift.

Remember, a bodylift is just that....a bodylift. Lifts the body off the frame. Has NOTHING to do with anything suspension.

BTW....please go create yourself a signature. Top left of the page, click on User CP then "edit signature". Tell us a little about your truck...year, engine, 2wd or 4wd, mods, etc. I'm only basing my torsion bar and block remarks because you mentioned torsion bars.

Ok, signature edited, I hope. I didn't know you could do a front only suspension lift.

do you have pics of this setup? just an AAL, no blocks and either a crank or preykey?

i was wondering this setup for me in the future. i've been hauling some heavier stuff lately and thought about AAL instead of a shackel. just to help with the payload.

No but it'll be *** saggyish. Ditching a 2.5" block for something that gives 1.5"...MAYBE 2" of lift with cranked front would give an *** saggy look. At least that's how it's making sense in my head. lol.

Personally, I love the idea of air bags for loads. If a little bit of height is what you're after, honestly go shackles because of their adjustability(.75-1" lift or 1.5-2" lift)

a lift kit is a "kit", the front and rear suspension parts put together. You can buy the superlift minus the rear if you're so inclined. They just offer a ****ty rear lift anyways.

what about crank or pre-key and AAL w/ 3/4"-1" for the shackle in place of the block? would that allow for the payload and not be too raked?
