I know Advance's ball joint pullers are free to use. There is a collateral of like $80 but you get it back when you return the kit.

You need to use a prybar and wedge the bastard in. Can be a PITA sometimes.

The Autozone or Advance tool will remove & install ball joints on the vehicle. Did my daughter's explorer a couple of weeks ago.
