I have been slowly working on this truck and need to replace the suspension system. I realize that this may be an opportunity for some upgrades.
I enjoy the stock stance but want to make sure I consider all non-stock options that would give a similar result. What options should I consider to give a nice close-to-stock stance? I am not interested in slamming it or doing a big lift but will consider minor changes.
You can use lighter weight rear leaf springs with added overload leaf, gives a better ride with empty bed but can still take the 1/2 ton rated load capacity
Most pick up trucks are oversprung in the rear, just the least expensive way to get the 1/2 ton rating
Outside of changing bushing and maybe new coil springs and ball joints there is not much to improve
Shocks can't help with a stiff ride
With all 4 shocks disconnected at one end, bounce the corners, that will be your ride feel, soft is good, stiff is bad
Shocks are there to prevent too much rebound after hitting a bump/dip, so they should allow the springs to do their job, which is to flex and not transfer bumps/dips to the frame/body
They slow down the springs from rebound effect that springs all have
Do a supreme suspensions 2 inch coil spacers in the front and 1.5 inch rear blocks. My kit was around $125 2 years ago. I can run up to a 15x10 with 31x10.50r15s
