Tire Rod End Boot = RIPPED

Just noticed today that my passenger side tie rod end boot is ripped pretty much all the way around and leaking grease. I dont know to much about this. What causes this to happen? Truck has 19 000k on it and has only been wheeled very lightly so far.
Does this need to be fixed right way?
Do I need to replace the whole tie rod end?

MIne ripped also fairly early after i got it. They dont seem to last too long and Im not sure why. I didn't replace them for a long time either and after finaly taking them off they were complete trash so I put on some regreasables and it made a huge difference.

Wheeled lightly as in you only ran over 2 caribou this week ?

you could just throw some grease at it then duct tape the boot. thats what i do. but once you start to get play replace it. there easy to do.

I would go ahead and replace the tie rod. They are not that expensive, actually seeing that the truck is at 19k miles and a 2008 make ford do it. That seems to be defective to me. I had alot of stuff go at around 20k miles. belt tensioners were the big one for me they replaced like 6 of them on my truck... they just couldnt get it right...

is white lithium grease safe??

If you are going to do anything use heavy grease, like chasis grease.

Ja i tried that at 20k miles. They laughed and nlamed it on my lift and tires.

who makes a greasable replacement tie rod end for the 08 ranger sport 2wd. I dont wanna buy something crappy that will bust on me like the stock ones. I was looking for Moog ones but couldnt seem to find one exactly for my application

Try Napa auto parts. Their stuff is OEM stuff. Alot of it comes with a "lifetime warranty". I have had great luck with their products. They usually had greaseable stuff, or they can order you the right one. I find most NAPA's are intelligent and can order premium products if that is what you want. They are one of the last companies that seem to be able to cross reference with a paper book still!

Advance auto will as well, if you ask the person to and they arent being lazy about it. (i work there and we still have our paper catalogs, i can look it up if you'd like and get a part # for you.)

yeah, few and far apart can I find someone to open the book. Maybe I need to start going to advanced auto parts over in webster hahaha. I hate when they just check the computer and then come back with a response of like "the computer shows that your differental fluid is not listed... it must then be ... well my best guess...." It's like really, do we need to guess at expensive parts?

I've found NAPA's warranty alot better. Advanced here never wants to make good on warranty parts, I had a set of Wagner thermoquiets that just sqeeled constantly, they wouldn't make good on them... I had to buy another set, and all was good. They are great pads, it was the first set I had squeek like that... It was like someone lubed them up or kicked them around the store.

But advanced is better for small stuff you can't mess up around here... like spray paints, sand papers, and specialty tools.
