hey guys,

Well im gathering parts to do my SAS this winter. I have 2 d30's in the garage. But, im worried about the strength of them. I have some Toyo open country MT's of the 35x13.5 variety and love them so I plan on using them so would the 30 be okay? I have read mixed reviews if them. d44's are few and far between here so that where my issue is. I was thinking i could always add some warn inners and manual hubs to strengthen the setup. I can get the hub conversion and axles for 500 or so. Then the only weakness is the R/P versus the d44. (d44's around here go for about 800 in ****ty condition)

So what do ya'll think? Im goign to be running Allpro's 6" leafs, Gen 1 Box and 1 ton Steering. Other than that it's all custom, as per usual haha

If you can get your hands on one you would be better off getting a D44 just for the sheer strength of them . Although it has been done before with D30s just my opinion .

 

I don't know what measurements you need, but there are some dana 60 and dana 44 available in ottawa, not far of a drive:

A Dana 30 is enough in a Ranger.

 

For groceries, yes.

 

I agree, I wouldnt want it if you plan on doing any wheeling.

Ive been down this road, wasted money. Do it right the first time.

 

Depends a lot on what your going to do. If it's a show truck you can get away with a 30. If you want to beat on it, go with a 44.

And if 44's really are going to for $800 a pop in Ottawa, get a full size truck, drive down to a New York junkyard, rip about 10 of them out of some old Broncos/ F-150 and congratulations you just paid for you entire SAS project. I got my 44 and 9" for $220 and the guy cut them off the Bronco for me. (Note: that's my way of saying you should be able to find one pretty cheap in New York. Not really sure if that would entail any taxes or anything).

And Crunchy, he probably wouldn't want that Chevy 60. Then your looking at changing up the drivetrain as well as the Chevy 60 would have a passenger side pumpkin.

 

ive seen d30's explode wheelin on jeeps with stock tires, theres a reason jeep guys get rid of them....
