Extreme swerving over bumps.

Hello,

I recently bought a 1997 ford ranger 2.3 5 speed.

I upgraded the tires to 31" BFG A/T and after installing noticed the extreme rub.Turns out my whole front suspension was sagged/gone to crap. I spent the money and got everything fixed in the front suspension, the works- shocks, struts, etc, etc. Everything was looked over so wasn't worried.

Come driving time, it seems that every time I go over a bump or hit a pothole, I swerve to the right ALOT. When I mean a lot I'm talking a good 3 or 4 feet to the right. I almost crashed into the curb going about 50mph and it scares the daylights out of me. I'd hate to be going on the highway and hit a pothole and roll over, or cause someone else's property to be damaged or hurt someone.

I can't seem to find out what's wrong, but have noticed that one of my tires (drivers side rear) wobbles a little bit, and seems to be cambered in. I don't think the place I took it to did a rear alignment when I got the suspension fixed andI don't think it's the front suspension as everything is brand spanking new.

Alignment? Not sure if it's rear suspension or I need a new sway bar? Any advice would help. I guess best thing would be is to take it in.

Thanks for input.

Did you change the rear shock too ?
I was having a major bump steer problem after a 5" lift and Coil-Overs in the front !
Only got worse over time, I would hit a bump and almost cross the street.
Replace my 28-spline rear with a large tube 31 spline and removed the rear sway bar because it didn't fit, that helped some.
Almost gave up when I finally talked to Local Off-Raod Warehouse and had the front shock rebuilt and found my rear shocks should have been two different sizes... that didn't come in the kit. Had the correct rear shocks put in and fronts rebuilt by Off Road Warehouse and Wham-Bam all the bump steer went aways.

Not saying yours will work out that way but make sure there are new shocks in front, check the rear shocks for wear and make sure they are the correct size ! Also, I fit was me I would check the wheel bearings too, some shops set them too loose !

Good luck... it is a PITA when you have bump steer !

p.s. OFW also did a front end alignment, other shops said they couldn't get it right, it was the best they could do, and it still pulled to one side. After ORW got through it didn't pull any more, they did great work and their pricing wasn't bad either.

I didn't change the rear shocks at all. Only the front suspension was done.
