Icon5 lift questions

My son has a 2001 ford ranger 4.0 4x4 . He is graduating HS soon and Im trying to lift his truck for him nothing to crazy because he plans to build on the suspension at a later date. Once he gets off on his feet it will eventually become a build for a toy . mid travel or long travel type deal after he gets a newer daily driver. His idea is he wants a 2-4 inch lift to accommodate 33 inch tires .right now he has 16 inch comp wheels with 31 inch tires? He just would like some more clearance and bigger tires for mean time. He has researched a bit on it and is getting frustrated because with torsion bars his conclusion is that it is not possible unless you dump money into the mid or long travel suspension. Can any one help me out on this who knows about this and if it is a possible thing to do ? Until he can save and dump lots of money into the suspension at a later date .
