i want to lift the front of my 1993 4x4, and i was thinking of using 4inch lift springs, the drop brackets, and new shocks.....

will this work? what else will i need? any advice you guys have would be awesome, i'm hear to learn..... i'm new to the truck suspension game i must say.

do i need a drop pitman, or will i be good as-is? also, does disconnecting the sways on a '93 have any effect? or is something else limiting the travel? thanks guys

 

Your in the right direction with the lift, but I would suggest just getting a complete front kit that include the springs, brackets and shocks all together. Yes you are going to need a drop pitman arm, I would suggest the 6" drop. The 4" drop pitman arm really doesn't drop enough to get the steering linkage where it belongs. You have one of the easier front ends to lift thankfully, and yes you can remove the front sway bar without any ill effects. It will definately let the I-Beams travel a bit more. If you really want to get the front end traveling look into some extended radius arms.

If your looking for a cheap 4" kit check out Rough Country. The entire kits costs under 500 dollars. The radius arms get expensive, but if you have an fab skills or know someone who does they are fairly easy to lengthen on your own.

 

do the radius arms have to be lenghtened with a lift? or is that just an option?

i don't want to lift the rear at all, i kinda want that prerunner nose-up stance, and money is at a premium since i'm in pharmacy school and have no money haha

 

The above mentioned kit is your best bet for cheap then. It comes with rear lift, but its just an AAL or block (can't remembe which) so you don't have to install them.

As for the radius arms, you do not have to lengthen them, it just helps the front end flex more.

 

Rough Country kits are complete pieces of garbage lol. Although, they might be good for mall crawling or something but I sure wouldn't be too crazy about putting them through their paces off road. I've heard of people smashing holes in their diffs because of ****ty drop brackets too many times. You get what you pay for.

In my opinion, If I were in your shoes I would invest in some 2" leveling coils, some Bilsteins, Chevy lowering shackles (DJM, Belltech, etc), and do a 3" body lift. You should be able to fit a 35 with a setup like that, about as big as you would want to go on our toothpick axles. I just got finished doing a 6" Skyjacker on my truck, and yeah it's nice..is it worth it..nope. I started regretting my decision pretty quickly when I was doing it, it gets old beating the **** out of your truck with an air chisel and torches for 10 hours pretty fast.

Also, whatever kit you get..I would stay away from Skyjacker radius arms..I don't know if they changed their arms or what the deal is but the set I got are all boxed, the older ones look tubular. They say you'll be able to fit a wider tire than factory..not a chance, I rub just as much with these as my stockers. Travel might improve marginally but IMO, they're not worth the 700 bucks. for 400 more I would be much..much more comfortable with a set of Camburgs. Skyjackers are quite the PITA to install as well

 

i don't plan on putting the truck off-road much if any.....after i get out of school a camburg 6.0 kit is first on the list of goodies...but for now i just need a reliable mall crawler...and i don't plan on getting any new tires, i will run 31s just like now...

i just want to get rid of the front end squat, and get a little prerunner stance..
