My FX4 is beating me up a little. Can I Install non-FX4-spec shocks/struts?

I have an '07 FX4. I do not take it off road. Pretty much the only time I use 4wd is in the bad weather. Some of the roads I travel every day to and from work are really rough and although I'm only 32 years old, the roughness is starting to get to me. I drive 52 miles round trip to and from work. I know the FX4 has it's own suspension specs, but would it be possible for me to replace the current shocks and/or struts with those from a regular 4x4 Ranger? If so, would anything significant be changed or sacrificed? Would the change in ridge harshness even be worth the investment or should I just wait til the current pieces are worn and need replacing?

its not the shocks, you actually have better shocks than the xlts. You probably have the stiffest torsion bars and leaf springs.

So it appears it's as good as it's going to get. I guess I'll just have to suck it up. Thanks for the feedback.

you can try something for us...uncrank your torsion bars and see if that does anything! :) They say they get stiffer when you crank them. You'd think it'd work the other way....course you'd go lower then. Then remove a leaf from your leaf pack...that'd soften things up all around.

Actually one of the major problems with the 04+ rangers isn't so much the suspension. It's the seats. They are by far some of the most uncomfortable seats i've ever dealt with. You can get some out of a 95-01 explorer that are 10x's more comfortable which will help a lot.

pull the front sway bar, you will get body roll but the ride is way better! i can hit some bumps and gobble them up
