OD light flashes codes P0735, P0741

I removed auto trans in my teenage daughter's 2005 ranger, 2.3L and had it rebuilt. Put it back and no OD, OD light flashes and throws codes 735 & 741
P0741 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance or Stuck Off
P0735 Gear 5 Incorrect ratio

Does this sound Like a bad torque converter? I would like to test solenoid, valve and ohms on tc circuit.
Should I just replace tc?
How do I test connections and solenoid with volt meter? What are the terminals on the connector.
Also, I was hard on the wire harness since I had it in and out so many times. I added a new starter and it was grinding with flywheel, so thought that noise was tc no seated, but am sure I had it seat all the way since I could hear tc against bell housing. thanks in advance for any info.

Welcome to the forum

Torque converter wouldn't effect OD, did you adjust the OD band?

You can test all the solenoids OHM readings from the 16 pin connector on drivers side of transmission
Ford code list here: https://www.therangerstation.com/tec...trouble_codes/

Attachment has general info on the Ranger automatics and the pin numbers to test also the OHM range you should see

The solenoids all get 12volts with key on
Each solenoid has 1 wire that runs back to the computer, the computer Grounds this wire to activate that one solenoid
A solenoid(or relay) is just a coil of wire around a metal core, it becomes an electro-magnet when it has 12v and ground, +/-, both
If it has no ground then 12v IN is also 12v OUT
With key on the computer checks if it sees 12v from each solenoid's "ground wire", it should if the wires are hooked up and solenoid's coil is OK
If not then for TCC solenoid, computer would set one of these codes:
P0748 Pressure Control Solenoid Electrical
or
P0743 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Electrical

P0741 means computer is not detecting a Locked torque converter after activating the ground on that solenoid
Locked means Engine RPM and Turbine speed RPM(input shaft) are the same, locked together
But computer does see that the wiring is OK

Rebuild should include new valve body and solenoids?
Also new torque converter

Yes, it could be torque converter issue, but more likely a valve body issue

Thanks for the response.
If forget to mention it drives fine under 45 mph, then OD light flashes and does not go into 4th gear. I only hear 2 gear changes.
However, when I take foot of gas RPM goes to idle, then when I apply gas, rpm goes up. Not together. Not sure how that is supposed to behave.

We did replace a reverse band an done other large band not sure, but came with kit. Did not replace tc , valve body or solenoids.
If I ground out pin 5 will I hear solenoid with key on engine off?
Should I see 12 volts on pins 5 and 16? or can I only do ohm check?
Should ohm check 20 to 60?
for band adjustment, can I just tighten 1 turn if I can't find my torque wrench?

thanks very much
Bill
