So I finally have my wheels and tires plus 3 inch body lift on they way, my only question is very simple. I have read all the FAQ's and so on about the job and I am an extremely competent mechanic, hell I maintain aircraft for a living and teach basic aviation maintenance as well as do a lot of part time performance work BUT, I like to be prepared.

And random off the wall tools I may need? I own two roll aways BUT, some things like Torx bits I have a limited supply of, is the one for the bed the only one needed? I just want to get this knocked out quickly because I hate starting something and not finishing it the same day. Thanks a lot for any tips.

Also, one thing I noticed in the threads about this, you do the cab one side at a time, do you leave the other side tight still because I didn't read that clearly anywhere and I can't imagine that not bending the cab mounting bolts. Thanks.

 

IMO you should leave them tight on one side and lift the other side. BUT some of the people in michigan think you should loosen them some. i think you still run the risk of the truck shifting and not staying square.

you need a torx bit for the rear jump seats.

use a torch to heat the bottom side of the cab bolts. then hit it with an impact. this will reduce the amount of time considerbly. I usually heat the bolt until you get some smoke fro mthe rubber bushing or the bolt is red hot then rip it out fast. works pretty well

 

Thanks Zach, I have a torch and plenty of airtools, I will have to get he torx as I don't have one that size (T55 right?) and I will try it with the cab bolts tight. Just seemed odd to me that it wouldn't hurt anything being done like that but if it worked for yours, I am sure it will work for mine.

I really hope my wheels and tires show up by Sat otherwise I will be rollin funny with a 3 inch BL and stock wheels/tires for a couple of days lol.

 

double check the instructions. but i want to say i never loosened the one side.

i think the back seats are T45 but i know its smaller than the bed sized torx bits.

 

Lift is on and running.

7 hours total start to finish, 2 hours on the effing parking brake cable that was completely seized together. It's alot easier than I thought just by looking at it. First body lift complete so now I can say I have branched out from performance to 4x4 work lol


Hopefully the tires will be here Monday or Tuesday, then I will post some pics because right now with stock wheels/tires and a 3 inch lift with a tbar crank it looks a bit "retarded" lol.
