I found a guy on craigslist with a 4 inch suspension lift and 33x12.5 tires/wheels that just wanted to trade straight up for stock parts that was less than 30 miles from me.
Thinking it was too good to be true, and the ad being over 2 weeks old, I e-mailed the guy anyway for pictures and more information.

I ask of course if it is the superlift kit (because it's 4x4 and 2001), what condition and miles it had on it, and the condition of tires/wheels.

The kit has 40k miles on it, 70k on the truck, and tires have 50% tread. Guy doesn't know what brand lift is on it, but then tells me it's a 3.5" spindle lift? wtf?

Based on what I have learned between 2wd and 4x4 suspension kits, if it's 4x4, it's going to be RCD or superlift, more than likely superlift because it's 4". And only 2wd have spindle lifts, correct? I asked him to look at the shocks and/or upper control arms, superlift has white shocks, fabtech has blue upper control arms (i think?).

Are there any other obvious things I can have this guy look for to tell me what brand it is? Besides of course, double checking to see if he is indeed 4x4 and 2wd and a superlift skid plate.

There aren't any 3.5" spindle lift kits are there? I thought it was 2.5, 3, or 5.5?

 

My fabtech spindle is black even though every picture on the web shows a light blue spindle. You are correct about their being 3" and 5" spindle lifts ONLY for 2wd. Also where is this guy at I'm about 30 miles from Carlsbad.. Oh and he prolly has a superlift just doesn't know it

I could be wrong, he said his truck was 4x4 for sure, and this looks like the superlift dropped cross-member. Any thoughts? Hopefully this will pan out. He just wants stock stuff, so I basically just need to swap him spindles, shocks, rear u-bolts, and swap him some stock tires/rims. Will be checking it out soon, so hopefully this pans out. Wish me luck :)

 

yeah that is the superlift kit for sure. 100% positive. And it is 4wd.

 

Sweet, yea, that's what I was thinking too, but I wanted to be sure. If this works out, I'm basically getting a superlift for the cost of some bolts, and if I want to pay to have someone swap them between the trucks. Either way, I think I'm coming out a **** load cheaper than $1600. Any special tools needed to remove or install a superlift? Think I read something somewhere about a puller tool?

 

the puller tool is for the torsion bars. you can rent a 2 bar puller from an auto parts store.

I will warn you though, since his is an 01 and yours is an 04 that those superlift knuckles may or may not have the holes you need for your brake rotor size. if that is the case you will need to replace your 04 rotors with rotors for a 01. just be prepared for that.

 

Good to know. Thanks Zach. I think I need new brakes on the front anyway. Will be a good excuse to get rid of that awful f'in squeal I have. Overall the lift itself seems pretty straight-forward. I did a body-lift pretty much on my own, I just hope I can do this w/o too much trouble. Hopefully this dood has some mechanical knowledge and will be able to help out, haha. We could just swap rotors tho, correct? Or will we have to swap calipers and pads and stuff too?

 

a bl i thought was almost more time consuming. id prefer to put on a superlift over a body lift.

u dont really need a puller. if you unbolt the shocks and the upper control arm, and pull the cv shafts out the lower control arm will drop enough to take the tension off the t-bar and you can just pull them out...
