return to stock suspension
return to stock suspension
when i got my ranger it was lowered and i cant stand how it rides. my girlfriend says she gets a headache when she rides in it! the kid supplied me with the stock coil and leaf springs. my question is, what do i need to do to return it to the original setup? im guessing that i will need some stock shocks but is that all? are there 4 of them all together? thanks!
im not sure what the correct way to lower a truck is. all i know is that he gave me the original coil and leaf springs, so i know those were changed. beyond that im not sure. what else should have been changed, what should i be looking for?
its definitely lowered than stock, ill get a picture up. what do you mean by a leaf pack? i have two green leaf springs, its a strange color green, one on each side. he said that the back was a little lower than the front. then the two coils up front.
ok i took some pictures but now i dont know how to post them. i clicked on the little picture with the mountains on here but i dont know where to go from there. i tried to do a search but i wasnt getting anywhere with that. sorry.
Must have been lowered incorrectly. Mine is 2/3 down and done right and rode exactly like stock until I put some slightly stiffer shocks, a rear sway bar, and polyurethane bushings on it but it is still a very comfy ride. Of course I personally prefer a tight and well handling vehicle for street use.
Looks to be about a 2/4 drop with coils up front and leafsprings out back, did he use stock shocks or did he replace them all around? I also know that ride on leafsprings for lowering affect the ride qaulity alot. I know You can put your stocks leafsprings on and flip the axle with a flipkit and with a nice pair of shocks it will ride nice. I have a 5/6 on my truck and its alot lower than yours and it rides about the same it did stock with a nice pair of belltech nitroactives on it. Im betting your shocks are shot. Only other thing that would make it ride like **** is with the axle sitting on the frame in the back and your not low enough for it to sit on it yet.
yeah i didnt even think that the shocks might just be wasted on this thing. i was debating whether or not to raise it up or not. i figured that was effecting the ride, and i frequently move motorcycles with it and it gets low enough to drag the mud flaps with one back there. it has that bouncy ride to it. i know that the tires are not stock size either so im sure that is attributing to poor ride quality as well.
what do you suggest i do to get a better ride back? do you think i could put on the regular size tires and shocks and ill be all set? does having the lower coils and leafs mean more wear on other components like shocks, ball joints, tie rods, etc...?
if you are trying to keep from spending too much i say just get some better shocks that are made for that kind of drop...cause isnt it easier to load the bikes in with it being that low? but if you dont mind spending a little money, i say put back the stock coils, stock leaves, new shocks for stock height and some new tires for stock height...
