school me on coil spacers!!

so im sold on the idea of throwing in some coil spacers on my 08 xl 2.3. i've been searching through here and some other forums, and im getting so much mixed info about coil spacers.

some say that ford f150 spacers work...others say to get the twist in ones...i personally like the idea of the ones that sit under or over the coil...others say they dont need to take the spring off to install them...some say they bought 1/4inch spacers and it lifted the truck 2 inches....others use 2 inch spacers...what the hell...i cant get a direct answer from searching!! i just want a simple 2 inch kit...but daystar doesnt make one for the ranger..???

since spring is approaching, and i have 120 KM on my truck, i figured its time for new shocks, and i'll do some coil spacers as well....can anybody point me in the right direction on what to do with the coil spacers?

please dont tell me to get a spindle lift, im not interested at all in it. simple 2 inches on top of the BL i have would be fine. Also, is there a writeup anywhere on installing coil spacers...or even just disassembling the front end? i wouldnt mind seeing some visuals to ripping apart the front end to change out shocks and springs..

thanks guys!!

I'm pretty sure coil spacers aren't going to work for you because you don't have coils. Are you 2wd or 4wd?

You most likely have torsion bars, and if you do you need to search for threads about cranking your torsion bars.

Most shock manufacturers have shock applications for 0-2" of lift, just google shopping and places like polyperformance or 4wheelparts.

Ok here's the low down on coil spring spacers. There are 2 spacers the Ranger uses, 83-97 for TTB/Twin I-beam Rangers and 98+ for coil spring XL and XLT 2WD Rangers. You can use up to 3 inch coil spring spacers on your Ranger, at 3 inches the upper control arm will be completely maxed down and you will have zero down travel, you front front will also be maxed out. Leveling kits for 2WD Rangers are usually 2 inch coil spring spacers. Also, you will need an alignment and camber/caster bolts otherwise the tires will be severely toed in. You will probably have to be realigned once or twice a year. I do not recommend coil spring spacers but Fabtech sells a 2.5 inch lift spring kit that included the camber/caster bolts, lift shocks, and arched upper control arms that compensate for the reduced down travel.

I don't suggest doing 3-inch coil spring spacers on a two-wheel drive like I did after the hassle of the company I went through sending me the wrong rear lift blocks I also bought 3 inch lift shocks replaced everything in my front end tie rods ball joints upper control arms the works also purchase cast and Camber bolts just to have my upper control arm and upper ball joint laying on the frame so now I have to purchase adjustable upper control arms I would have almost rather redneck it not put any lift take a Sawzall and cut half of the fenders off if anything just go with a small spacer and a little body lift

does upgrading the front coils to a 2" lift soujds better than the spacers. What sort of problems what I run into in terms of alignment etc.
