Re gear question

I am planning on getting some new tires and was wondering what gears should i go with so it won't feel like a rock? The new tires might be 32's or 31's not to sure yet. Thanks for any feedback. And if so wheres the best place to get them and what are the steps to re-gearing by yourself.

I have 235/75/14's on them now and a 3.slow and a 7.5 rear end i also drive a manual and don't drive the freeway much so speed is not an issue. Stock gears also.

would i be ok for a little with my stock gears? I kinda only have enough money for the tires and rims... And is re-gearing pretty simple like a 2 day process?

I'd say you should be fine. You will notice a power loss, but you really can't say weather it will be ok or not until after you do it.

Re-gearing is not a simple process, especially if you don't do it often or if you have never done it.

I paid 300 for mine to get done, thats one of the 3 things I dont' mess with, the other two are engines and auto transmissions

I hate to post links to other forums/sites but TRS has really good technical info.

http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/index.php

usefull gear calculator after tire size change:
http://www.therangerstation.com/tech...tioChange.html

check out the "Technical library" Everything you would possibly need to know about regearing, what gear ratio for what tire size, etc.

4.10s or 4.56's
dont listen to people who say 4.56 will kill gas mileage, chances are they dont have them...
im pullin 18mpg on the highway with 4.56 33"s and a 4.0 auto... a manual should be a bit better

Well I got 4.88 and 35's and it definetly killed my gas milage. I lost 2mpg going from same lift and 33's/4.10 to 35's and 4.88's.

I would put the tires on and evaluate your situation. You'll get better gas milage iwth a lower gear if you don't bog...

I've done 3.73's and 31's. You'll be fine around town, on the highway cruising wasn't bad unless it was a big hill. I drive up to NH every other weekend and it was killing me having to go into 4th with it pinned and still losing some speed. thats why I went to 4.10's. but if I didn't have those hills I would have never re-geared.

Look at the code in the door tag or on the rear diff. Theres a metal tag with numbers on the rear diff cover. You can search and find some ratio-code numbers.
