I am looking for Base plate brackets to tow my 2003 Ford Ranger Edge 2WD Pickup behind my class A motor home. I have a Roadmaster Sterling Towbar and have found roadmaster brackets for my vehicle. But with a warning.

Vehicle Specific:2 & 4 Wheel Drive. No Skidplate, No tremor. Must have tow hooks.

My Ranger does not have a Skidplate so am OK there. I don't know what Tremor means and I have no Tow Hooks. Has anyone put brackets on a vehicle such as this without having to do extensive modification. Will the above roadmaster base plate brackets fit? Is there another brand that would work? Any help would be appreciated.

Tremor was a trim package, just like the FX4, EDGE, or XLT.

My guess as to why you need tow hooks is to make sure you have the hole in the valence. Those normally bolt to the frame right? or do they actually clip to the tow hooks? If you get it and find out that you do need tow hooks, toss an ad up in the classifieds and someone can hook you up for fairly cheap. They just bolt on, very easy install

I would suspect you are probably right. According to the instructions the Hooks have to be removed and the brackets attach to the frame. I don't know if the frame is predrilled for the tow Hooks or not. does anyone know?

well there is a crossmember that the tow hooks bolt to and i dont think 2wds have that crossmember

 

My 2003 Edge 2WD has the crossmember and the holes are already there and tapped to mount tow hooks.

 

ya i think the 2wd xlts dont come with that crossmember becaus emine doesnt have it... need to invest in one ha anyone got one they wana sell ha

 

The crossmember came about in 2001, so your truck would not have it.

 

well edges are a 2wd truck on a 4wd frame thats why they have the crossmember and i looked at the original poster and he is an edge so he should be fine
