turn radius

Does anyone know or is thier a way to improve/increase the turning radius on our rangers. I used to own an explorer and had problem making a u turn from one side of the street to the other. now it's impossible w/o stoping and backing up.....arrrrrr

Yeah, the turning radius on the rangers are pretty crappy. I would do the floor it but with that 2.5L Im barely ever able to burn out. I don't think there is a way to increase it though, heh.

Its all about your tires.. you can only turn them so far before they start rubbing.
The longer the wheelbase the worse it gets...
The wheels turn a decent amount now.. anyone ever driven
a dodge avenger? those things had worse turning radius then my 2ft longer tbird.. MUCH LESS.

Rangers arent horrible older superduties were pretty bad because the wheels
would rub the front leaf springs.

My solid axle ranger, I have yet to have to throw it into reverse to make a u-turn. Neither did I when it was stock.

Can you drive ok?

I have heard the spindles steering stops are further out than stock, so they will decrease your turning radius.

hahaha.....my driving is just fine. the street where i live when i had the explorer, i could make a u turn without a problem now that i have the ranger it sux.....can i maybe grind down the spindle stops or would that put too much pressure on the rack and pinion?

The rack and pinion could hit the internal stops, not sure how much more turning radius you would gain that way.

You do have an extended cab, that sucks mines a reg cab.

yeah mines an xtended cab. I'll just live with what i got no big deal, its just annoying, i wouldnt mind going over the curb, but again its to where when i do hit the curb its on the side wall and i end scuffing up the side wall and then the rim. I'm just weird that way. life goes on..................

Even with my stock tires I never even came close to hitting the rims of my truck. Hitting curbs never even really hurt the sidewall of my tires either.

I too noticed the turning radius of my '03 extended cab is horrible compared to my old regular cab '84 and '91 rangers. There a lot of turns I used to be able to do just fine that I can no longer do.

Yeah I put a spindle lift on and the turning radius after with new stoppers absolutely sucked. I trimed teh stoppers(grinded) but the shorter stopper was missed completely almost, just rubbed side, so I said screw it, I know my max turn radius, so now if I max out I will hit the arms. So I guess if you have no lift and want a better turn radius you could grind off stock stoppers, but be careful, I could see a lot of ways that this could make a good or bad situation into a really bad one.

Doing a u-turn on a two lane road with a shoulder is easy, just need to use every inch.......add some sidewalks in there and you're jumping them. LOL

I find an intersection is the right size for a u-turn......when there's no traffic.
