want to buy a lift for my 2004 4x4
I'm looking to get a 4" or 5" suspension lift for my ranger but i'm not sure what will work best. I do a little off roading and a lot of on roading. I want a good ride on the road but i also want to know that I can take my truck through and over all anything i may come across offroading.. I what it to be bigger and badder than my buddies toyota tacoma. money is not a issue so please let me know what you all think would be my best bet and why or why not.
Solid Axle Swap. its a bit extreme for an occasional off-roader but super lift would be the way to go. RCD makes a nice lift but its more expensive but gets rid of the torsion bars. (super lift uses drop brackets.) I would only recommend the RCD kit if you do alot of off-roading were ground clearance may be an issue. or maybe a 3inch body lift jus to clear bigger tires?
SAS = Solid Axle Swap.. it involves LOTS of fabricating, being able to think it ALL the way through, along with th eknowledge to get the proper parts, for the proper reasons, and making sure you dont underbuild it all. Plus, you have to have a rough sense of mathmatical work in makgin sure its all cut and balanced properly for steering alignment though.. thats just the tip fo the iceburg. Just wait for a couple of the SAS guys to poke in, they can give you the run out..
But for yoru application, I woudl recommend a Superlift ($1200+), or an RCD ($2200+++).. the Superlift keeps the torsion bar assembly, while the RCD converts the torsion bar setup to a coilover...
Long term, alot of people usually recommend an RCD< but you really do have to sink ALOT of money into it to get it "just right", whereas the Superlift works as well as it should, and is a simple bolt on.
Its all whatever you think you would like.

i've been thinking of the rcd but heard a lot of the you have to put a lot into it talk but not sure what the alot is . i'm not worried about how much it cost just want to make sure I get my moneys worth.
go for the super lift. you dont seem to do alot of off-roading to were you will need or really profit from spending the extra $$$ for the RCD kit. they both do the same job. jus the RCD gets rid of the torsion bars. They both are good kits and can pretty much handle the same $h**.
If money really is no issue just do a little research on SASs to find what you want then pay someone else to do it for you. If you want to be able to run big tires (pretty much anything over 35s) you will need a different front axle anyways.
