what t bar do i have ?
How can i find out which of the 3 t bars i have ?
*crosses fingers and prays they are 1* |
I thought they were all the same
|
i remember reading about different stiffness t-bars before but i think that was only in f150s
|
nope.. they do infact have different stiffnesses..
Check inside the door (the sticker).. it will have a space where it says 'springs' and under it, it will have 2 digits (the first one is the front springs and the second one is for the rear) |
i'm pretty sure there are three of them . 2 end up sagging and go to crap especialy if you crank them the other ones are tough and last a long time .
|
im gonna have to check on that, if i have crappy ones then the stiff one are getting added to the mod list
|
There may be three for Rangers, but there are actually more than that for Rangers and Explorers.
Most 4x2 Edges come with "F" bars -- the weakest. Most 4x4's come with B, 2, or 1 bars. 1 are the stiffest I know of, 2 are slightly less. B bars are what I put in to replace the crappy F bars that sagged after ing them and thrashing my truck. The B's have held up just fine. I don't know of any Rangers with 2's. Most are in fact 1's (like FX4's and tow package 4x4's), B's (most 4x4's I THINK), and F's. The spring field on your door pillar sticker is 2 characters and the first one refers to the type of torsion bar. BF would mean type B front bars, type F rear springs. My 4x2 Edge was FK from the factory. Crappy weak springs. BF and 1F are the most common on 4x4's as far as I know, but some have the crappy K rears. |
i just read under the spr it said BBCC i assume that means i have b bars but why is there 4 letters i thought there should only be 2 ?
|
im gonna check mine when i get home and refer back to this thread in like a week and a half to check em

Bob, do you know if the explorer/sport tracs came with similar tbars?
i need to check and see what mine are, and was wondering if they are listed the same as rangers, or if they are on a different scale |
Rangers only use 3 (1,B,F) of the full Ranger/Explorer scale:
<-higher lower-> 1 2 B D E F K L |

Late model Rangers use at least 3 different leaf spring packs. "C" are the heaviest and are often used on trucks with the optional Payload Package #2. They are also standard on Level II's. The lightest rate springs are on 4x2's with the standard Payload Package #1. Between the two extremes is a mixture of the 3 spring rates, depending on a variety of variables. Since Explorers use a different leaf spring arrangement, they are probably on a different scale from Rangers anyway. |
I believe the other two rears are "F" and "K" (just from memory and having looked at other trucks -- it's not "gospel", lol).

I'm sure it'll be nice to get your "old friend" back, lol. |
Here's a summary of the springs that were listed for Rangers in 2003. Other late models are probably similar:
Torsion bars (code / combined rating / bar diameter) 1 / 2900 lb / 1.09" B / 2710 lb / 1.06" F / 2510 lb / 1.03" Leaf springs (code / combined rating / pack thickness at axle / number of leaves) C / 2750 lb / 1.82" / 4 F? / 2600 lb / 1.64" / 4 K? / 2550 lb / 1.60" / 4 |
About how much are new code 1 bars?
|
Mine is an 05 and says:
SPR 11KK What's up with that? I'm asuming 1's in the front and K's in the rear? |
Yes, Dave, Bob actually covered that earlier. Newer Rangers have a 4 character code instead of 2 (pays to read the whole thread, lol...)

I read that part John, I just wasn't sure if 2 1's meant 1 or some newer 11. Thanks though.
