removing rear block

First of all, I had a blast today. I got to spend some time working and driving the Ranger. It's been a while. Detorqued front torsion, hooked up horn, installed the front grill, changed one 02 sensor (and the code hasn't come back), cleaned the interior, etc.

On to the topic. If I remove the rear block it should be about right with the front height. If I remove it, what do I do about a bump stop? I thought about milling this block down to 1" or so if the bump stop is needed. Thats still within the range of it looking right. Is there another option?

Im not 100% positive but i think that i read somewhere the it really wont effect it due to the fact that the bump stop with just hit the axle tube now. I would get someone elses opinion though!

measure the distance from the axle tube to the top of the bumpstop ledge on the block. remove the blocks and space the bumpstop down from the frame the same distance you measured.

or put 2wd shocks on it

you cant mill the block down, its hollow.

you could put 2wd blocks in and loose 1/2" of lift.

A long time ago i ran an AAL, and a 1" block in the rear, i never changed the shocks or the bump stops. you know how much i towed etc, never had a problem.

only Edge 2wd had blocks and they are the same as 4wd blocks....

on the 2wd trucks, the bump stops just hit the axle tube.....

Don't know myself but Griggs said his original 2WD Edge blocks were shorter than 4x4 blocks.

If you pull the blocks, you should run 2WD XL/XLT length shocks. Otherwise the shocks become the bump stops.

I think there is a 1/2" difference. My blocks are 2 -1/2" tall.

I'll look at some shocks tomorrow.

you wont be able to run your stock shocks i dont think

we tried to put my old ones on Kevins truck with no blocks and the shock was pretty close to being bottomed out just sitting there... you may want some shorter ones

My ride height will be what it was stock. i added 2 to 2-1/2" ride heght with springs a long time ago. I'm lowering 2-1/2" by taking the block off. 2.5 - 2.5 = 0 over stock.

If they have the Rancho rs9000 at 4wheel parts I'll get them tomorrow. I like the idea of adjusting them. I found a model number cross reference so I am good to go.

Without the Edge blocks, the stock Edge shocks will still bottom before the axle hits the stops. The springs don't matter because the suspension still bottoms at the same place. All the springs would do is make it less likely to bottom as often.

I understand that. Thanks.

Rancho shocks for 2wd xlt is the solution if I understand everything. That would allow me to run without bumpstops.

It would allow you to remove the blocks but you'll want to keep the bumpstops on the frame.

actually, if you have changed the spring combo, the 2wd shocks may be too short.

I have the RS9000 shocks you mentioned (in 4wd length though) and think they're good, but not worth the price you have to pay for them. I usually leave mine on setting 1 which is the softest setting.

Before I got the Ranchos, I had some ProComp ES3000 shocks that I thought were way too stiff for the rear of an unloaded pickup. I think that setting 6 or 7 on the Rancho shocks are about the same as the ES3000's.
