15's on 08 FX4

will 15 inch wheels fit on my 08 FX4? i know the previous yrs FX4's had the 15" option but i had my truck up on my lift the other day and there is only like a 1/4 inch to 1/2 ich of clearance from the caliper to the wheel ( i have the stock 16's).

thanks

my exploder had 16s stock. I upgraded to 15s and there is like a 1/4 inch between the caliper and rim. I would suggest 3.75 in backspacing on the rims because if i had a different backspacing they wouldnt fit. I wouldnt imagine you having a problem.

Might want to borrow a wheel to try it. After 2002 the brakes rotors on Rangers got bigger in the front. I'd try it before you spend the money. Others have had problems.

15's will fit unless they upgraded the brakes from '07......the '07s had 15" wheels from the factory on the FX4 Level II's...

the problem isn't going to be back spacing or whether he can run a 15 or not. It's going to boil down to offset as well. I have no clue what the factory 15x7 rims had as an offset. However, when I looked into getting the American Racing Teflon Mojaves I ran into an issue of offset. I believe they have a -19mm offset in the 15x8 application. This WILL NOT work with the factory suspension, according to the person on the phone at American Racing when I called. I also called RCD to find out if they knew what offset would work with their lift spindles coupled with the factory caliper and they could not tell me.

Your best bet, call the manufacturer to find out if a particular 15 inch rim will fit or not. Also, the factory alcoas (15x7) had a 4.5 inch back spacing.

Oh and FWIW, with the RCD kit I'm running Eagle Alloy Series 185 in 15x8x3.25 with a -19mm offset. So a -19mm offset will at least work with the RCD kit.

I have a '07 4x4 which came with stock 16" wheels. I put on some 15x8 wheels with 3.75 backspacing, no clearance problems at all.

The 4x4 front brake rotors were upsized from 11.28" to 12" in mid 2003 model year, so clearance is tighter. Most 15's will fit but there are a few that will hit the calipers. It depends on the backspacing and the shape of the inside of the rim.

noob question but how come you all switch from 16's - 15's ? is it jsut for look or is there a practical reason. Plus what do ya use for back spacing?

It probably had to do with lug centric or hub centric. I call bs on their part but i m sure someone will chime in with specifics.

i know the rims that came on the newest generation of Ranger sport 4X2s (15x7 4.5bs) will NOT fit on the 4x4 versions of the same year? this wasnt backspace or offset but like many have stated it has to do with the inner clearance of brake systems. i know this because i wanted to swap out my 07 XL wheels for the 07 Sport wheels at the time of purchase but no dice after they mounted em [as the tech. in the shop didnt even know until then]

like lefty im also running a AE 185 series 15x8 with 3.25" backspace -19 offset and it clears the brake units.

Hi there I just did it to my 08 4x4 and the callipers had to be ground down. Not much but I was told there could be warranty issues.
