32s on 3.73
planning on getting 16x9" rims and 265/75R16s on my 3.0 ranger with 3.73s and am wondering if it is absolutely necessary to regear when I live in florida so its flatground driving and am not planning on offroading at all
|
manual or auto?
|
heck no..
|
You could throw 4.10's but i doubt you would need them.. there is a gear to tire ratio chart ill find for you.
|
1 Attachment(s)
Here is the chart:
Attachment 188293 The chart is divided into three categories. The rpm highlighted in black are optimum for the tire size and ratio combination. These will most closely give you the best overall drivability. If you're looking for a ratio that will give better fuel economy for highway driving at the expense of some acceleration and overall performance, choose a ratio in the yellow shaded area. If you're looking for a ratio that will improve acceleration and towing power at the expense of some fuel economy, choose a ratio in the blue shaded area. |
its auto

What do those numbers mean?

thanks alot guys

isnt the charts based on a manual trans in 4th gear or a 1.1 ratio? Thats the only charts i ever found.
|
so the numbers in the chart are your rpms, correct?
i just measured my tire and it's 29-1/2". so if i was going to get a 33" tire, i woud not have to regear. however if i wanted the same performance i'm getting now, i'd have to get a programer. correct? |

well anyone know wat the stock gearing is on my 1999 4.0 mazda 4x4
|
it should say either on your doorjam or there should be a tag under the truck attached to the axle.
keith, i meant a power adder type of programer. |
thnx
|
it kinda sux when you buy a used vehicle and you don't know what is in there.

well since your an auto i would say regear because you will put a little stress on the trans. It will be harder for a auto then it would be for a manual. But just get some 4.11's and you'll be good.
|
hmm i'll have to research that a little better. thanks.
jack, yea if it's an auto, i'd regear. if you can afford it mind you. if you can't afford to regear, i'd look into a shift kit. it won't help with the loss of power but it will help your transmission to shift properly and keep it from overheating. |
A transmission cooler will help also.
|
Your fine, its what i run...Its okay.

I know. Like the X-Cal II....it will give you more power with a tune, but wont make a large enough difference to counteract the loss of power from larger tires.
Re-gearing is expensive. A tuner and a underdrive crank pully are cheaper and will get the perception of power back. Probably increase it actually. Rich |
you will be fine save some money just change driving habit you will be fine
|
I wouldn't.. Personal experience, i had 31x10.50's with my old 3.0 and 3.73's with an automatic transmission and it was horrible.. Lost a lot of my low end power and the high way was worse..
|
I have 33's and 3.73s with an auto. It moves along just fine. Yea, I have a trans cooler and I don't really tear around on it. If I need more torque off road, I have 4 low.
