Another wheel/tire advice/fitment question

Okay I am considering getting some bigger wheels and tires for my 94 2.3l 2wd. Because of cost I am considering either the cragar soft 8s or the cragar "D" window wheels in either 15x7 or 15x8. Also I know the faq says the max tire size for my truck should be 30" but I have a feeling that this is for a 4x4. What size tire would be realistic for this application while still being a decent improvement over stock? Is this wheel tire combo too heavy to run on this truck without changing the gearing? 15x7 or 15x8? soft 8s or "D" windows?
