I'm looking to replace my tires, but ideally I'd like to avoid spending an arm and a leg. I have some old Toyo M55's mounted right now, and I haven't been disappointed with them, but...

I don't want to spend another $1200 replacing them. Anyone know of any decent tires in a P25585R16? For the record, I'm set on the size and am unwilling to go any bigger or smaller.

I just realized... I said P255 etc, while I meant to say LT255 etc. Doesn't make a difference, but this gives me a chance to refresh this thread to the top of the list.

 

take a look at the Firestone Destination AT. I ran them in something close to that size (forget the exact metric equivalent) for a while before I lifted it and put larger tires on it. They ran me around 700 for four of them. Rode nice, and had a bunch of good reviews.

 

I used Destination AT's before I lifted my truck, but they don't come any taller than 75. Good tire, though...

Like I said, they're good tires but they don't come tall enough. I want some with an 85 sidewall so I don't have to re-adjust my speedo and odo again. And it just looks good.

 

go with a 265 or something with a 75 sidewall and that will give you some more height.

 

Did you not see what I originally wrote? I already have 85's, and want to replace them with a new set. I only wanted to know if anyone knew of any that weren't killer expensive.

 

yes but 85 is not actually a height, its a percent of a width. so 85% of 255mm=216.75mm or 75% of 265mm (198.75mm) that ken suggested, though it needs to be more like a 275 or 285. Really closest to that size without being that exact size is 285/75/16 which is 32.8" where 255/85/16 is 33.1"

There will be minor variance between brands/styles anyway, so regardless if you get a different tire the size can vary somewhat.

if you want 255/85/16 its fine but it is a bit more limited in selection than say a 285/75/16 which will be close in overall diameter and 30mm wider.

Either way is fine but I just wanted to point out, Ken is on the right track and I think many people don't understand metric tire sizes fully. I think they are quite dumb personally, i mean really, percentages?

I understand how the sidewall is calculated. All I'm saying is that it took me forever to adjust my speedo and odo after I went to the bigger wheel, and I'd like to keep it as absolutely close as possible to avoid having to do that again.

 

if you go with a 285/75 in the destinations you really shouldnt have to worry about changing your speedo.
When your speedometer is reading 60mph you will only be out about a half a mph slower

 

if any depending on the tire itself it could be spot or the opposite. A 285/75R16 will be cheaper and more available not to mention not as stupidly narrow as the 255/85R16 which is basically a dead tire size.

 

i wouldnt say its stupidly narrow. just a bit of an odd size. I have factory 255/70/16s

 

Thanks. I realize that it's pretty narrow... For whatever reason it was the tire I originally selected and I got kinda stuck with it.

The Destinations are a lot cheaper and should keep me from having to install another speedometer gear.
