Automatic Tire Balancing Using Airsoft Pellets

Gumby passed this article to me, seems like a real cheap way to do it

http://www.4x4trailhunters.com/article.php?id=18

heres the tire chart to show you how much to add, but it even says do alittle extra cause it wont hurt
http://www.innovativebalancing.com/BigTirechart.htm

what ya think? if i can get some air pellets intime i might do that instead of stick on weights

bill has plastic beads(like sand) in his tires for balancing. it really works.

im thinking about using antifreeze as i have found that it does the same thing.

use antifreeze

calls for about 1 pint per tire semi truck drivers use it as well.

powder clumps with moisture, anitfreeze wont clump or freeze. im going to try it. all you will have to do is take the valve out of the stem and fill it with a food style injector, screw the valve back in and air up the tire.

That stuff is a Joke. I used to work on tires and people that did this crap themselves we LAUGHED at.

Water can work, but it is slower to align itself because of its high surface tension
If you want to try it out, go buy some Fix-A-Flat and put it in your tire. It is basically water. Its white, smelly and much like water. It will throw it all out of whack.

I highly suggest not wasting your money. If you want to get real good balancing, get High Speed Balancing. This is done on the vehicle. It balances everything - Wheel, Hub and Tires.

Large tires will never balance like high performance ones.

This is like the Tornados for the Intake or Those 10 dollar Ebay Chips.

Only tires on a diesel that is balanced is the 2 front and a majority of the time its weights if they even balance them.

Not sure where you got your sources, but its not very reliable. The way you put on a tire for most Deisels, you couldnt accurately measure the fluid because it would slosh out when you put the tire on the rim. Unless, of course, you injected it.

Quote what you want supported.

I used to work at Kaufman Tire in Atlanta and here in Dallas. Also worked at Butler Tire in Atlanta. I have worked with tires for over 2 years (in the past). I have seen all kinds of silly things people have done to avoid balancing.

I'm gettin' new BFG's soon and that sounds like a REALLY good idea... I don't want weights on my new rims! I don't think I could get that much airsoft so soon though...

And if you put one of his tires on a Balancer, it would not come up with a 0.0 reading.

I will bet 1,000 bucks it is a different reading each time on the balancer. ANYTHING inside the tire is not good no matter what it is. Liquid doesnt work nor do beads - large or small.

If it worked, tire places would use it. Sure is alot less expensive than Lead weights, thats for sure.

high speed balancing aint got nuthin on road-force balancing. neither of which are cheap.
we arent talkin about HP on-road tires here, so whats the point of spendin large amounts of money on balancing when youre jus gonna go throw it out off-road?

well if lead weights are so much better how come they cant balance a 33 worth a crap, reason i would try something different is because my tires have been balanced 3 times and its always been crappy.

ive heard it works from someone i trust, so im going to try it.

Yeah and there are sites saying the Tornado works and those 10 dollar Ebay chips.

My support is I have personally NOT seen it work. 2 years of it.

Anybody is going to say anything to sell. Ask them if they have a money back guarentee. If they do, you have nothing to lose cept the install and the removal.

I think it's an excelent idea... and if I can get a hold of a large enough quantity of airsoft in time... I'd do it... it makes perfect sense to me. They explained the method using plenty of physics which makes me happy...

Tires get out of round from the factory or they have heavy spots. this could cause problems even if its balanced. I could balance a hard boiled egg, but it wont roll right cause its out of round. I could also balance a tire on a wheel that has an extreme heavy spot, but it will still seem unbalanced because of the extreme weight.

When you have problems with tires after they have been balanced, you have the right to ask for new ones.

Keep in mind, large tires, usually 35"or more do not balance very well. just too much weight.

ha

I love physics and chem and this stuff is based on easy to understand, tride and true principles. There's tons of THEORIES on how time "exists." No one has come up with a universally accepted truth on how time functions. If no one fully understands how time functions, then there can't be a definate way of traveling through it.

EDIT: when's the last time you saw an entire page devoted to testimonials on time travel?

well, physically, time travel has very little to do with physics.

This is a pretty detailed description of what goes into balancing a tire besides just the spinnign of the tire.

http://www.roadfly.com/magazine/11/h...neering.1.html

Dave is going to deflate the tire, break the bead and spin the tire so that the high spot on the rim matches with the low spot on the tire. That should correct the problem."
Thats oen thing most tire places dont do to help a tire that is out of balance. Spinnign the tire on the wheel can help alot.

The machine used on this site is a road force variation machine. It checks everything about the tire and the wheel.

If the place you goto doesnt have one and the tire is asking for alot of weight, have the tire guy spin the tire on the wheel 180 degrees. If it doesnt work again, then have him spin it 90 dgrees. I there are still problems, have him spin it another 180 degrees. After that, ask for a new tire.
