BFG AT's

Alrite dudes, theres a local store here having a tire sale. I went to check it out and I got ahold of one of the guys there, I asked him if he carried BFG A/T's, he didnt but he could order them, but then he said that he wouldnt recommend those tires for my ranger because there 10 ply and the tires I have on now are 4 ply. He said those tires were for bigger fullsize trucks, so he wanted to sell me some hercules AT's, well im not having that. I've heard nothing but good things from BFG AT's, and a lot of you all have them, so I was wondering should I still go with the BFG's?

---> I'm just gonna go with the stock size tires too, dont know if that makes any difference.

Kinda off topic:

----> does anybody have any pix on which bolts to loosen up for the bumper mod?

Umm get a size above stock, just so you look quicker.

And yeah, you should go with the BFG A/Ts for sure.

Just look underneath your front/rear bumper. The bolts are quite easy to see.

A/Ts are 8 ply aren't they? They are a heavy tire but they're the shizzle.

Since when are A/T's an offroad tire? They are ramming some serious crap up your bunghole. They are a street tire can handle the basic/slightly advanced offroading that most of us do. Serious guys use the M/T's.

Never heard anything bad about the BFG but I went with the Dueler A/T's only cause Firestone works on the truck and the wifes car when i can't fix them. Almost the same tire as the BFG and mine aren't loud at all.

Go up a size also, you'll love it!

^^^^Depends on your off roading... MT's aren't good in the snow, period. Ask Beard, he loves his goodyear mtr's but they aren't very good in the snow...

alrite, yeah Im definetly going with the BFG's. my stock tires are 245/75-16, . I was kinda interested in going a little bigger, not much tho, what would be the next size up? and what are the pros/cons of going bigger as far as traction, power, mileage.

Thanks for the help guys!

265/70/16 The pros would be looks and height. Cons, even worse fuel mileage and stiffer ride... Snow traction is better with a narrower tire, just a FYI for you...

In that case I still just might go with stock size....now i priced the BFG's ATs on tirerack, $152.00 each. But wal-mart has em for $156.00, i dont know if that includes mounting and balancing but damn, i think id rather go through wal-mart then deal with all the shipping, what do you guys think?

I'm surprised Wal-Mart has them but if that includes mounting, balancing and the tire disposal fee that's a good price.

My M/Ts, the worse the conditions are the better they perform. They don't stop beautifully on ice, but oh well, i drive a truck, it happens.

And if you go with another other brand than BFG you'll save a crapload of money.

dang,117 bucks a piece, didnt know those guys sold tires, I might have to shop around a littl more, I guess with the wal-mart thing,... its a 156 a tire but then they charge for everthing else which is around 175 a tire, is that a deal, kinda expensive.

----> can you get the bfg at's in different "plys" you guys said they were 6 ply.

In your stock size of 245/75R16 the BFG A/T only comes in a 10-ply/Load Range E tire, so they were right about that. I have that exact tire and size on my truck and love 'em. BUT you will see a drop in mpg because that tire is much heavier than the stock 4- or 6-ply tires that came on your truck simply because it is a much tougher tire...thicker sidewall/thicker tread. Mine came with Gdyr Wrangler RT/S tires and those things sucked compared to the A/T's.

6-ply Load Range C
8-ply=Load Range D
10-ply=Load Range E

ok but do you suggest a 8 ply or a 10 ply? i heard 10 ply was mainly for full size trucks that do a lot of hauling

to put it in perspective, a f-150 would most likely come with a d range tire and a 2/350 would come with a E range tire. The extra plys help strengthen the tire to carry the extra weight without buldgeing. With the higher load range the ride will more than likely be rougher (stiffer tire), but youll have a tougher tire ( i would say less prone to nails, etc.)

personally i think a e-range tire is way overkill for a ranger, i'd probably go with a d range. im no tire expert though.
