Body/Spindle lift "safe" tire size?
Body/Spindle lift "safe" tire size?
I'm going to be swapping my axle pretty soon (as soon as I can find one) to an 8.8 with 4.10's (hopefully)
I'm going to do a spindle/body lift.
What tires should I run?
It's still a DD, but it's used on the weekends for trails/mud/etc
My question is, what is the safest/biggest tire to go with? Just 35's? Or should I go with 36's/37's?
Here's my total setup:
removed mud flaps
fleetside(regular bed, not flareside) with fender flares
cranked torsions (would be willing to 90 percent max out)
probably doetesh spindle lift
aal's/shackles for the rear (possibly blocks if I HAVE to, but I want to stray away from them)
I really don't want to cut or hack anything up. I think 35's would fit pretty nicely, but if I can do like a 37...that would be nice too. I'm going to re-gear anyways, so it's not a big deal. I'll probably do 4.88's if I go up to 37's.
I know blktremor 02/red_fx2's truck (same lift
) fits 35's with minimal (if any) rubbing and I don't believe any trimming. But, it looks like it could clear more tire. I mean a 37 compared to a 35 only needs 1 more inch clearance all the way around, and it definetly looks like it would clear.
Also, keep in mind, ball joints, I don't want to replace them every 10k miles, and reliablity, this still is my DD, and until I get enough money for a bike, it's my DD for a long time. and I don't beat my truck up at all. no harsh stop/starts, i'm a melow driver, even offroad I don't "kill" my truck. And I maintain it like crazy.
I think 35's are the safest route...just my opinion, and I'm posting because I want yours. Rims are going to be 15x10 rock crawlers...maybe 16x10 because of the tire sizes. I definetly am running a 10 though. And I will be getting the buckshots through brian...so I don't know about sizes on those as well.
The last and final thing is price, whats the diff between a 35 and a 37? 35's I heard are about 550-600 shipped (through bryan) maybe cheaper. Would 37's be like 1k b/c they aren't as widely used?
Last and final thing (I promise)...here's my last resort. 33's and a spindle lift. Swap the rear end and lock it w/ 4.10's. This is because it's a DD, I will have awesome reliability, etc.
Thanks!

Locker..err...thats much later. The lift, tires, and wheels are already gonna make a dent in the wallet.

I plan on going BL and Spindle lift one day. I was thinking about also doing a Chevy Spring Swap in the rear cause you only have to move the front hanger up. Check out these threads on it HERE and HERE and HERE. The last one is Bob's Lava rock test.
Also if you use the 4" Chevy lift springs, with the stock blocks, it will proabably level your truck out.
I was thinking about running 37"s or 38" with new Moser Axle shafts and 4.88 gears and a Eaton E-Locker.
Definitely with a winch in the front so that I don't get stuck in the middle of no where by myself.
Just a few things to look at/think about.

yea, I might just go with 33's. I want to get buckshots with black rock crawlers (probably 15x8's w/ 3.75 bs) and spindle lift it. I actually might do the fabtech from jusnes simply b/c it comes with everything. Unless if someone can point me in the right direction for shocks all the way around. I am going to run AAL's for the rear and a spindle w/ torsion crank in the front (i might run shackles depending on how much the rear sags compared to the front. I like it a little lower in the rear, but not lowrider)

If I can get a hold of an 8.8 with 4.10's and LS for a decent price i'm probably going to spindle/body lift on 35's.
The question now is...15x8 or 15x10
And mt classic II's or rock crawlers?
I might create another post with a poll

Already gave my 15x8 15x10 answer in the other thread.
The makers of spindles warn you heavily about bigger tire sizes. There is probably a reason, even if it's only protection from litigation.
I decided to run 35's on 15x8's on my spindle lift and so far, so good. Refer to the video of me jumping my truck, or how I throw myself at obstacles offroading, lol. I don't recommend these practices -- they are risky. It's choices I've made is all.
It's often been said that you are more likely to break spindles on the road, than off. Potholes, and other obstacles which are hit at high speeds rapicly multiply the force exerted on spindles and other lift parts.
At least one spindle break on here from someone with 40 inch tires has been reported. Some hint it's the 40 inch tires -- but who knows?
You have to decide if you're willing to risk it.
My spindles are the Doetsch Tech 4x2 Edge spindles.

Go to a thread that has all the Axle codes for what your looking for and write them down. Then, go to a junkyard and find a ranger with that rearend. Hint, look for a 4.0 ranger or a Edge with a hitch. Then try to see if the owner will knock the price down if you are willing to trade axles with them.

There is a u-pull-it in hollywood that I am going to go to. I went there once but they didn't have what I was looking for (and the guy that helped me was an idiot of a manager)
I need axle code R7 if i'm not mistaken.
ahhhh only if they had R8's (4.56's) available. I think I would pee myself
