Ok so I'm sticking with a balck steel rim and am getting a good deal on these so I here is a link to the rims I have, now I'm needing a 36 to put on them. I want a tire that will go at least 40k miles (good luck I know). From what I have heard about all Swampers is about 35k which is really low. I don't want to lose all agression on the tire by purchasing an all terrain. I'd like to avoid paying 250 bucks a tire. 200 would be the max or close to there.

I love my goodyear mt/r's (don't know if they make 36's though maybe just 35's and 37's) but I've them over a year, probably 20K and they still look brand new.

but that big of a mt/r might be pricey cause mine were 200.

Yeah I'm not trying to go over a 36 for the simple fact that when I had my truck re-geared with the 5:56's I was told that I could put a max of a 36 on there. Im seriously looking into getting a set of thornbirds for my truck. I've heard that with regular rotation I should be able to squeeze 40k out of them. I love how they look and I'm not terribly worried about off-road performance, I'm more into it for looks and semi-decent tire wear.

 

you might be better off going with the cragar soft 8's, thats what i got, and they are cheaper than the ones you linked to. and look the same.

Thornbirds are teh suck. They're heavy, don't always wear regularly, and from what I hear, are a b!tch to balance also. If you want something about that size, I'd go with MTRs also. You may have to settle for 35s or 37s though, as I don't know that they make a 36" tire either. The only 36" tires I know of are Super Swampers and the Goodyear Humvee tires, but those are for a 16 or 16.5" wheel.

 

I wouldnt mind a 37 to be honest, but do you think the lift and the gears will be able to handle that? It's not even so much the gears as the transmission giving out on me

 

yeah, and you've had transmisison problems before, right?

you'd be able to fit 37s pretty well since you have flairsides, but i'd be worried more about the stress on the rear axle than the gearing. and you mean 4:56 gears not 5:56, right?

if i was getting 36's they woudl be IROKS no question. but you seem to be in it for looks so idk. thornturds are gay but if its a streetqueen then who cares

 

How do the irok's handle on the street? They are about the same price as the MTRs ($268) for a 35 and the iroks are ($250) for a 36.

 

How about these? Anyone have any experience with them?

sts are not really on offroad tire. i did have the pleasure of driving a 95 f-150 with 35" sts and they handeled and drove great. but i wouldnt recommend thim for offroading

 

This is more of I want a semi-agressive but with good road wear tire that will only see off-road when I'm on the beach or towing my 4wheeler to an offroad park.

Get them, 36x14.50!

 

TrXus MT over the STS will be great on the street and MUCH better offroad and in any sticky situations. The STS is pretty much a street/sand tire. Mud=clogging in a second. Get some 37x12.5r15 Trxus MTs or 35's

 

I was thinking the STS from the get go but since you said you drive on the beach I think the STS is exactly what you are looking for.

 

If you want a 36 or 37 new for $200 there isn't much. That size generally jumps up to around $300. National tire has a special on FCII and you can get a 37x13.5 for $199. Normally they are about $300. It is a relatively light tire for the size and I have heard they get good mileage and are smooth on the road. It may not be aggressive enough for you though.

I was looking into the STS but found that they wear quickly. Found better reviews of the Mickey Thompson MTZ and you can get a $200 rebate on a set.

 

Well I think I'm just stuck with the a 35 for the simple fact that most tires jump from 35 directly to 37. Interco has the most options in a 36 however they either are too heavy, or will wear down in 30k or sooner. SO I'm looking at grabbing a set of BFG MT's 35x12.50 for about 188.00 each.

 

FCII's are a really nice tire, my buddy has them on his tow rig.

 

they are pretty nice. and they spin very well, which equates to a nice ride on the road.
