I went out into the garage and measured my tread depth with a tape measure. Not as good as a good old tread depth gauge, but anywho.
At any given point (center of tread, edge, whatever), the lowest I could measure was around 15/32". Just a hair under 1/2 deep.
Brand new they were 20/32". So I would say I have used just under 25% of the tread in roughly 15k miles, and I've been fairly rough on them.

Usually once a Radial tire is set (been rolling in one direction for a while) then if it is changed to the opposite side of the vehicle (change in tire rotation) then the belting MAY come loose and reduce tire life.
Newer tires may have changed but the old steel belted radial tires were really bad for this happening (the steel belts would eat through the side walls), so that is probably where the front to back came from.

Hah!
I flew down in June and it worked out that I had like 3 weeks off. I told my wife I almost waned to cancel the flight and drive, spend some time in UT, CO, NV, etc. Then I remember how I wanted to kill myself after 4 days of driving when we moved, lol.
I hope to move back within a year but I need a job there in order to do that

i borrowed a set of 31" all terrains from a friend for the winter(as my stockers are fairly bald) and they were brand new and god did i ever hate them A/T's... they were horrible.. if i pulled up to a stop sign, and then took off it didnt spin as much and it squealed a bit even in the rain. when i buy tires(got some on my chevy s15 im gonna through on the ford until i really need some tires and have some money for them) im gonna get the mud terrains i think.. a family friend has a set of 35" mud terrains on their lifted F-350 powerstroke diesel crew cab and they hunt and them tires take them anywhere they wanna go. my stockers even when brand new in december 2007 spin out a lot.. its not bad when the roads are dry but in the rain its terrible i cant pull out in front of someone because i'd be just sitting there spinning..

i pulled up to a 4 way stop, stopped then it was my turn to go so i pulled away tires spinning (damn 5 speeds) and shifted into 2nd gear and got on the gas and the rear end went out sideways... its annoying sometimes how easy my truck is to spin in the rain.
