Lock Nut Size

What size is the lock nut for the wheel bearing? I have a lock nut that keeps backing out on me.

On a 4x2 there is a keeper with a cotter pin to prevent that from happening. Is there anything on the spindle outboard of the bearing nut?

You don't need to remove the wheel to tighten the bearing.Just jack up the corner and remove the dust cap from the center (usually need an old screwdriver and hammer).Remove the cotter pin and keeper then tighten away.

I generaly use channel lock pliers. It doesn't need to be torqued down very tight.

I know.If you go BY-The-Book , it says to tighten so many foot pounds then back off so far.
I've always tightened it until the wheel starts to drag a little when you spin it , then back off about 1/8th turn.
Aint lost a wheel or bearing yet.
