Opinions on A/T tires (other than BFG's)
I posted a while back asking what everyones favorite A/T tire was. Most people said the BFG, and a few said they loved the Coopers. Well I decided on the size I want (265/75R16) but havnt commited to the tire I want. I orginally was going to get the BFG's (and still may) but of course there the most expensive A/T I have looked at. The going rate around here is about $155. For a 18 (well almost) year old guy with a part time job $620 plus tire insurance and installation is a pretty big number. I was originally gonig to get the BFG's but before I make a decision I want to know what makes them so much better then all the others. Some other A/T tires I have been looking at were the Yokohama Geolandar A/T + II, Cooper Discoverer S/T, Toyo Open Country A/T and ther Kelly Safari MSR. I mean out of these tires are there any I should be avoiding due to quality? The Yoko's are the cheapest priced at like $99 a tire. My driving is around 75% on, 25% off road. So I dont need a hardcore offroad tire, but I am still looking for a more agressive tire than the Wranglers I have now that came stock. Any help would be great!
Thanks,
Chris

I've grown to love the coopers. got my S/T's for 620 with everything includeing their flat replacement plus an alignment
Shannons cooper ATR's (that is there new AT tire it came out in the beginning of the year) where like 550 for everything including the flat, and alignment
I love both tires, the S/T's are a little loud but not bad, the ATR are nice and quiet

I hate the look of the Revo's. I have no idea if they are a good/great/amazing tire. Look is pretty important to me because I want to be happy with my choice. The Coopers look GREAT and as with pretty much anything, if it's good enough for Daddy Griggs it's good enough for me. He runs them and that's a huge statement.

I had good luck with toyo opencountry a/t 108/tire installed
My current tires are Dean Wildcat LT Load range E they were 120/tire installed
dean is made by cooper.
Whatever you get make sure you get load range C or higher.
You pay 10$ more a tire but get about twice the useable tread.
17/32 vs 12/32

the good thing about the REVOs are, they are PERFECT on the street. dont get me wrong BFGs are great and second in line in my book, but the noise they make, esp at low speeds, is killer. i got the revos on mine because, like most people, i do most of my driving ON THE PAVEMENT. thats where the REVO excells, its designed for the pavement, but works great offroad too. i got through places with my REVOs, that joe with his level 2 and BFGs couldnt get through. you can call them rice tires when i pulled him out!!

Not sure yet. I am going to go to the tire dealers around here and see if I cant talk them down. I am leaning towards the Coopers but heard you only get about 30,000 miles out of them. Whats the average mileage on the Duelers? I wanted something that lasted a little longer... Just another reason to shell out the extra cash for the BFG's...

Well I went out and did some more looking around and came across a tire called a Trivant Sport King. BFG makes the tire so I guess Michilin actually makes it but its supposed to perform like the BFG A/T but is like $300 less. They can give me a set of 265/75R16 (32") for $440 installed, with all the benefits (free lifetime rotation, balancing, ect.) Thats a damn good deal if you ask me, but I am still not convinced. Sounds almost to good to be true. Has anyone had this tire before, or heard anything about it? Is it a decent tire? If I dont go with these im getting the Coopers.
Thanks,
Chris

I suggest that you check out the Kumho Road Venture AT KL-41. Especially if you want a good tire at a low price. Here's what people who bought them and sent a review into Tire Rack had to say. In the first link below, scroll down to, and click on, the underlined words "Read all reviews for this tire." The reviews highly praise the tire, its traction, and how long it lasts. As I remember, only one review was negative. Since its $30-$50 cheaper than the Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo and the BFG AT and seems to last as many miles and ranks almost as high in the Tire Rack ratings, it seems like the Kumho is a good deal to me. The second link below is Tire Rack's reviewer ratings of these 3 tires and other AT tires. If you click on a tire name you can scroll down to and click on the line "Read all reviews for this tire". The town I live near has only about 30,000 people and over half the tire shops in town sell Kumhos. There's Kumhos on vehicles all over the Helena, Montana, area. People around here really shop around and compare tires and talk to each other about their pros and cons, and we need good rubber in the kind of country we live in. I'd call the tire dealers in your area, ask if they sell Kumho's, and if they do, ask what kind of a deal they'll give you on a set of these.
