I am having problems keeping my tires balanced. I have them balanced and not a day or two later the tires are right back out of balance with shaking in the steering wheel and a shudder like action when the wheel is not shaking.

Brakes are fine, I already checked them and rotors are smooth as well since there is no shudder when applying the brakes.

Could it just be the tires that are giving me problems or are there other things that I need to look at? I have never had a problem with tire balancing before, and I have had the truck for 7 years and have had 3 sets of tires on the truck. I am on the 4 set now.

Specs on wheels and tires:
-Tires: Cooper S/Ts 285/75/16
-Wheels: Procomp Extreme Alloy 6089 Chrome 16x8

How are you having them balanced?
Stick on weights or hammer on.

Are you using bean bags or anything else in them.

Did you put any fix-a-flat in it or slim?

Have you had an alignment or suspension checked lately?

If you rotate them is it still doing it?

Is it possible that your slinging weights off?

 

I'd give some balancing beads a shot... can't hurt to try!

 

I have never used those. I work at Walmart in the tle and we only have two kinds of weights hammer on and sticky. I know when people come in with slim or fixaflat the weight its thrown off each time and is chasing weight. I would personally have a different shop take a look at the balance

 

are you sure it's not an alignment issue?

 

i had this issue also, turns out mine was from having some uneven wear on the tire, i have 31's. other than the wear issue, u might look at your suspension components.

 

Tires have been balanced with hammer on weights. No slime or nothing like that in them but air. I run all tires strictly at 35psi cause I check them weekly.

I haven't rotated them yet. I just barely got these tires about 2-3 months ago. But I am rotating them this coming oil change in about 500 miles. And yes they are slinging weights off, I can hear them. Sounds like a rock going through the floor board lol.

But I will take advice on getting a alignment. Hasn't been done in a while. However is there a way that you can keep the weights to stay on better?

I'll get them balanced, then the weights fly off in about a day or so and then it's back to shaking. Anyway to keep the weights on better?? Or is the dude just not beating them on there good enough?

 

Tell the shop that you want sticky weights and that might solve your.problem.

tmake sure the hammer on weights being used are the ones designed for your rims, any reptuable shop should stock all 9 styles of weights, (14 styles if they get into luxury cars). and will have a plastic guage there to check your rim to determin the proper wheel weight style. I used to do that job for 10 years, and we stocked all the styles of wheel weights, even larger ones for semi trucks, and balancing beads. my guess is they are using a genaric AW weight, and it's not clipping on properly

 

Im having the same problem, i lost a weight last night on the way to work. when it hit the truck i was like WTF! But its shaking so bad its causing my manual hubs to work loose, so thats a problem. guess the truck is parked till i have time to get it fixed.

 

if you have the stock ranger rims they should be using hammer on weights FN, It will have an FN on it. If they are not using FN thats why your slinging weights off.

Since the OP has Procomps it could be any of the weights and they need to use sticky weights if it has no lip or beadlocks on the out side of the rim.

Went Friday and got my tires rebalanced. By Sunday, a couple of the wheel weights flew off......again lol.

Sticky weights in the future I reckon? Are they able to stay on better than hammer ons? I have never used sticky weights before so I don't know how reliable they are.

 

Yep. Until I got these beadlocks - all of my previous aftermarket wheels were balanced using sticky weights. I never had any issues with them.

I never knew they were there - which is what you’re after!

All I use is sticky weights too... never had a problem with them coming off.
