While checking my door tag for my axle tag, i noticed the recommended size tires listed for my ranger was 265/75 r15 on 15/7. Every tire website i go in has the maximum size listed for my year as a 235. Is this unusual?

Also i have my old lady checking the current tire size as im back on active duty away from the poor girl (the truck )

 

It may be the tire sizes they have listed for a Ranger.
Ford tire lists are often not complete, and that's what tire companies have to go by.

265/75 R15 were often used on Ranger 4x4s, so would certainly fit and door tag would have that size listed if that is what they came with.
Could have been an "off-road" package option.

In 2002 they added 31X10.50R15 for an off-road option

 

Thanks for the info. I take it in that case that i have to either get new rims to put offroads on it or deal with the 3 different tire options that i have now.

Any idea whether any other sizes will fit on 15x7s and keep the stock wheelspace?

 

That would be a question for tire company, 15x7 rim can fit many size tires.
Aggressive tread(off-road) tires come in all sizes
