How long to install?

How long do you guys think it would take a mechanic with 7 years of experience to install a body lift (PA) mostly alone (no lift) with a random pair of extra hands when he needed them? But access to all shop tools and torches, etc?

I got the lift in the mail today...and am going to do it at work, but I can't do it inside, so it has to be outside behind the building.

--

The wife already gave me the "ok" to get some tires...I'm not sure she'll even notice the lift...so I at least have to wait a week and a half because I'd like to do them on the same day.

But I can see her being like "wow it got a lot bigger, what did you do" and I'll be like "yeah new tires will do that."

I mean this is what happens when we get ok's and don't get asked for dollar amounts though I guess.

hrmm...I only have one day to do it...well, 8 hours in total to be exact. Also, once I start, if I do it at work, I'm pretty much stuck...and the doors lock at 5.

Problem is that if I do it at my parents house, I won't have access to torches or air or other things that come up that I may need.

me and a buddy did mine by hand in a 1 car apartment garage. took us 6 hours. its a very straightforward process. i'd say hte most "complicated" part is moving the fan shroud haha. we also did it with hand tools and no torch but air tools woulda sped the process up a lot.

It only took me 14 hrs doin it by myself but thats because I took my time, and I never did one before. I bet I could do another one in 8 to 10 hrs tops and not rushing..

I think if you lay out all your tools before hand (torch, air wrench, etc.). You might get it all done in 8 hours. For sure in 8 hrs with another set of hands.

Yeah I think so too. Read some write ups and make sure you have everything you need before hand. Get some plastic zip lock bags and a sharpie to label hardware that you remove. Worst case you come back the next day and finish up the bumpers and minor things.

due the cab first. and if you dont finish you can still get the new tires, they will fit.... except youll have the cab lifted and the box stock height until you get time (15 mins) to do the bed!!!

I think the wife might notice if only half of it got done and not the other. Women are stupid, but I don't think he'll get that past her.

I've done 5 or 6. The first one took 14 or so hours. The last one took 3. That is with 3 people with experience doing them.

I think it took 7 hours my first time with 3 or 4 people with no power tools. With a torch and power tools I think it took 4-5 last time?

I would say 8 hours is going to make it close your first time.

I would get the cab and front bumper done first and then move to the year in case you run you of time as the bed is really easy.

off topic... ford removes the body completely from the truck of the new superduties when working on the motor... walked through the shop at the dealership i used to work at, and there were 3-4 superduty cabs in the air, with frames and motors on the ground below them

Well did it today...Took 8 hours. You could say the cab took 7.5 hours and the bed too about a half hour lol. I was scared having so much time into it and still having the bed to do....what a relief when I realized how easy the rest was.

I only had a problem with the driver side rear cab body mount...had to heat that one up, none of the others though.

--

I found a lot of the rear bumper relocation bracket things confusing as hell -- seems like everything back there is called a bracket and there's like 4-5 different ones. There's like a bumper bracket, a relocation bumper bracket, an outer bumper bracket and a bumper bracket spacer...and they use the words so many times, I felt like I was taking a test and getting really confused...so I had to put the directions down and hold it up by hand to realize what I was supposed to do.

--

I've still got to get some 3/4" hose on my AC line that hits the bottom of the alternator to insulate it better...and also I have to get that shield on the inside of the driver side frame rail back in place. Other than that, and replacing the rear seats after I retorque everything in about a week, she's looking good.

There should be a clamp that comes with the bl for your a/c line. When you put that on you also need to bend the line a little bit.

Ahh yeah there is a clamp that was in the kit, I had no idea what that was for. I'll have to read that part of the instructions I guess lol
