About three weeks ago my rangers check engine light comes on, has rough idle and blowing black smoke out the tail pipe. I found a vacuum line broken off of the charcoal canister that fixed it for a brief time. I also put new spark plugs in it that let me get it home but still had to double foot drive it at stops and red lights to keep it running!! any suggetions on the terrible idle and blowing black smoke??

Check the Fuel Pressure Regulator(FPR) on the fuel rail, it has a vacuum line attached, remove this line and check it for fuel smell or fuel.

FPR has a rubber diaphragm inside that can crack and leak fuel, this leaking fuel is sucked into the intake via the vacuum line causing the run rich black smoke.
