Clicking/Tapping noise after rain.

My truck has started making a clicking/tapping noise when accelerating after the rains over the weekend. Not sure what it is but I think my cats? Sounds like water in my cats or something? Not sure but when I accelerating it gets louder and even when idle I can hear it. The only time I can't hear it is when I'm coasting at like 30mph with no acceleration. Once I hit the gas again the noise starts up.

Anything it could be besides cats? I don't wanna replace those things, they are so expensive :(

Rob, take a look under your hood at night, while you rev the engine.

Look for any arcing from the plug wires and coilpack.

Good call!!

I came across this in the g/f's old 85 Firebird. It started to click really loud over a period of time and the engine would shutter under hard acceleration. I popped the hood on the side of the road one night and seen a bunch of blue arcs jumping from the plug wires to the block. Needless to say, after replacing the wires, the car ran like a champ again.

Hi Earl, I will definitely check that tonight but it really sounds like it's comming from the front under the engine where the cats are I'm guessin. Night falls when I get off of work so I'll check it asap and post back. Thanks bro.

Will do! Plugs and wires were changed less then 6 months ago, but still on the same coilpack.

Welp, I checked for arcing this evening while my friend held the gas pedal. Couldn't find anything. I don't really notice a difference in power either, just a loud obnoxious sound comming from under the engine.

Any other feedback?

Is it only there after is rains? Since you can't find any issues with the wires and such, maybe it's your valves or lifters clicking? You check you oil level recently?

Could be a lifter for sure, but i just had the whole engine rebuilt. So I don't want to think it's those :( I've checked my oil recently ya, but I'll check it again.

Exhaust Manifold Gasket was the culprit.
