I don't really know on your Ranger but I have the 2.3 and I think my injectors are messing up too. All I have to do is remove my upper intake plenum and take two 10mm bolts off and the whole thing comes off. It would probably be better if you got yourself a Haynes book or something similar.

What other symptoms do you have? Does it ever cut out like it's not getting fuel?

Used injectors and rail?
I hope not, you could be taking someone elses problem and making it yours.

Anyhow, I believe the connectors are different. 2003 are EV6 for sure ("pencil" type), and I think the 2000 might still be EV1 - not sure of the cut off date...

When u take out the old injectors, check the hole that they came out of. Alot of times the o-rings or other parts will get stuck in there so when you go to install the new set they won't fit in properly.

As far as tips in tricks, the only specialty tool you need is a fuel line disconnect tool. This will be needed if the rails come off, probably not necessary if you're swapping injectors. It's a plastic tee shaped tube about 1" long. The parts store carry them in a package with several sizes. Let me specify this was the case on my 2003 model year. Not sure how far back (model year) this tool is needed.

If you need to do this in a day, hope that someone like Rogue has them in stock. You can buy them rebuilt then send your old ones back for a core refund. I just did my 2002 with the flex fuel injectors. The truck had to sit for a while waiting to get them rebuilt. Thats the price of oddball parts. Flex fuel injectors are fairly rare. No choice but to wait or spend several hundred for a new set.

Make sure you get all of the O rings out or you'll have some trouble. Since you're doing all of them, I strongly recommend a Haynes manual, came in handy when I did my injectors. Around my parts, injectors went for around $100 a piece at the stealership. I do have a flex fuel truck though, so they may be more than what you are gonna spend. Got a spare off of ebay brand new for about a third the price, just in case too. :)

Haven't done injectors on a Ranger yet but I've done my share on a few other cars and the best thing is to vasiline the o-rings before you try to put the new injectors in. I have actually cut an o-ring in half trying to get it in without vasiline before. Good luck.
