oil pan removal?

my truck has been parked in the garage for over a month now and my oil leak has made a mark bigger then a basketball on the garage floor now.

i was told a 8 hour job to get it replaced.

i can get a pan on ebay pretty cheap but how much do you have to raise the engine up to get the pan off?

a few inches or totally remove the motor?

also, is the front of the tranny in the way to get the bolts on the rear of the pan or not?

gotta love great american engineering!!!!!!!

When I did my pan gasket, I thought about removing the pan, thankfully I didnt have to because I used a felpro flexible gasket. But from what I remember (this was about a year ago and I had my transmission out), it looked like the engine would have to be raised atleast 6". I would imagine you are doing this with a cherry picker, right?? If so, you might be able to remove the motor mount bolts and lift the engine enough to pull the pan, just be carefull of what lines, hoses, etc you are stretching out.
