Question on Ranger Edge 2001 3.0 Catalytic converter (near headers)

To my knowledge I noticed that the 3.0 Ranger 2001 has I believe 5 catalyst. Well my question is in the front 3 one for each side of the headers and then one in the middle where to two sides unite. I need to replace them but the dealership is making me buy each piece which is expensive.

My Question: Can I buy just the catalytic converters and have someone Weld them to the pieces where old Cats were? And which can I buy for my truck. THANKS for the help.

Thank Dillon. Now Im assuming from the picture I need to get 2 for each side of header. But there is also another in the middle. Do I need to replace that one. I want my "check engine light" to go away.

Also just a note i have a 3.0 Ranger 2001

Thanks!

Edit: Also is this CAT legal in California?

From what I've been told, on the 2001+ exhaust systems on any truck we're built with high flow cats, even if there is 4 of them. I had 4.. 2 pre cats and 2 post cats (pre cats coming off each side of the manifold, and 2 post cats after the y-pipe). I just recently finished a rear cat delete so now I have 2 pre cats and 1 post cat. If you can find an exhaust shop to bend you that bend, and have a buddy WELD it up (Not solder, that's for electronics, sorry) you can run 1 cat less. I've noticed a throttle response increase and sound as well as some mpg even with 35's.

But since you're in california, you may have to find special cat's... All that emmisions ****. Blah.

Thanks for the help. And also thanks for the English lesson LOL sometimes I forget Ive been looking on the internet for some cats but I have also noticed some y-pipes which are bolt-ons. Im afraid to buy it because either they wont bolt to the remaining back pipe where other 2 cats are or "check engine light" will not turn off.

Only time the check engine light will come on is if the o2 sensors sniff something different, more carbons, otherwise it won't come on. It doesn't read back pressure either.

good luck trying to get them to ship to California. They wont. Emissions got tighter. You will have to take it to an approved shop to have them do it. Unless you drive to arizona and pick them up and install them your self.

Catalytic Converters

Look up Magnaflow Cats either 41404 or 41405. these are approved for California.

From my understanding I need OBD II cats. I see these mention it but the site say it is still not CA legal. Is there a cat around this price that I could weld to each side after header and one where I guess the y pipe is?

Thanks Guys!
