welcome to the forum
What year Ranger?
EDIT: I see it is a 2007 from the other post
P0446 is an EVAP system code so can not be cleared
Computer must run 2 "passing tests" before it will clear that code.
You can not force a test
So best advice is to drive the truck until fully warmed up, say 20-30min drive or more
Then let it cool down at least 5 hours
That is one "drive cycle" for the computer, it will only perform one test per drive cycle
Because there is an EVAP code computer should run a test once engine is warmed up, but not a given
Never let fuel level get below 1/4 and don't fill up the tank above 3/4 until code clears itself.
Give it a week, assuming heat up/cool down once a day
I think a Ford shop will have the Ford scanner which CAN clear EVAP codes, so that is an option as well, assuming problem has been fixed
Quick read here on diagnosing P0446: http://www.justanswer.com/car/15e5j-...er-pickup.html
If you have a reader/scanner you can check if repairs have worked
But still have to drive it to get computer to self clear the code
And just a heads up on automotive solenoids(and relays), they usually have 12volts with key on, it is the GROUND WIRE that the computer uses to open and close these solenoids
You can test solenoids(and relays) with a 9volt battery, they have no polarity(+/-) just apply voltage and you should hear a "click", if it is a vacuum solenoid then put a hose on one port and blow thru it while activating it and deactivating it, depending on its purpose you shouldn't be able to blow thru it in one position, either the OFF or ON position, if you can in either position then it is bad, or if it doesn't "click" it is bad

Look very carefully at the back of the transmission crossmember where the wiring harness crosses over- that's where my P0446 problem was- the green wire with blue stripe had a little chafe spot where water caused the wire to be completely eaten through. I spent months reading posts and trying different things, and then I found a post today where a guy had this same problem and cause, so I immediately checked and there it was, exactly the same. So check it out.
